We’re picking out a pair of baby shoes for our couples maternity shoot. I love these so much, but can’t decide whether they’re gender-neutral or too feminine. I wouldn’t want people assuming it’s a girl (we are not planning to find out the sex).
[name]IMO[/name], The dot shoes look all girl, the tan look all boy. I really like the orange and think they work best as neutral! Makes me want to go buy my kids some Toms
The tan could go either way technically, but I just can’t imagine ever buying those shoes for a girl. The burlap texture and leather strap just make them seem kind of…I dunno, rustic? I can’t think of the right word. I just know they wouldn’t match any of my daughter’s clothes haha! The orange ones may lean a little bit girly because they have a design on them I think, but orange is definitely a gender-neutral color and there is nothing about the design on them that is particularly feminine. I could imagine a girl or a boy wearing those with the right outfit.
Honestly, I think you should pick whichever pair matches the style of your photo shoot the best.
Wish they had the same color choices in tiny Toms as they do in women’s. [name]Green[/name] ones would be perfect for a “team green” baby announcement!
They just don’t seem to have any truly gender-neutral shoes, which is a shame. They don’t have to be Toms, of course, but that’s the first baby shoe hubby and I [name]BOTH[/name] swooned over, so it seemed appropriate!
The tan looks very boyish to me. And the dots and orange lean more feminine. I would try find some basic white booties for an obvious gender neutral look.
Why can’t boys have fun shoes? Maybe it’s different over here, but I wouldn’t assume the baby was girl based on those shoes. Id they were pink and glittery, sure. But not multi-coloured dots!
Yeah. The first and last look girlish and the tan ones look boyish. I would might consider buying the orange ones for [name]Henry[/name] if he had a few outfits that matched with them but for a photoshoot, I think a white pair of booties would be best.
Hmm, I think the dots seem a bit too feminine because the predominant colors are reds, purples, pinks and yellows. If there were a more even amount of red and blue dots I’d say they were gender neutral, but all that purple and not enough green gives me pause. If my son picked them out I would totally let him wear them… but I think for the purpose of not seeming to skew toward either sex in your photoshoot these are not the way to go.
I think the tan ones do look rather boyish, but if you showed only the front (and hid the manly leather) they’d be fine. Same with the orange, yes they seem a bit feminine, but if you just showed the outsides in your picture (and not the design part) then the color is neutural and really lovely.
What about ordering just the plain black canvas version? I saw two black options on the site and I think either of those would be the most gender neutral, and super cute to boot! Now I’m definitely going to have to order [name]Dom[/name] some of these… haha. =]
