Similar first and last name

Hello everyone! My husband and I are expecting a little baby at the end of the month, we do not know if it’s a boy or girl. My husband is in love with the name [name]Jack[/name] for a little boy. Fortunately, I love [name]Jack[/name] too…it would be my number 1 choice but unfortunately it rhymes with our last name “Jonak”. Everything I ready says to stay away from first and last names that rhyme. When I’ve asked my friends for their honest opinions, they tell me “[name]Jack[/name] Jonak” has a nice ring to it. Are they just being nice??? [name]Do[/name] you laugh when you hear it or do you think it sounds okay. [name]HONESTY[/name] PLEASE!!! The name doesn’t bother my husband at all but I’m not sure if I can get past it.

Thanks for the opinions!

I actually think it’s ok. I like the sound of it…honest.

Sorry but it sounds sing-songy to me - not only the rhyming but the two J’s - even something like [name]Jack[/name] Novak wouldn’t bother me too much but [name]Jack[/name] Jonak sounds like a name in a nursery rhyme or comic book or something. Others may disagree though…

It doesn’t sound … bad… but it is a little rhymey. It’s not too sing-song-y, and sometimes a little rhyme or slant rhyme sounds good and gives the name a bit of a ring to it. The only concern I would have is that kids in school might tease him. Have you considered naming him something like [name]Jackson[/name] that puts a few more syllables in between the rhyme? Or maybe [name]Jake[/name]? I also love [name]Jack[/name] as a name, and if you can’t find something else you love- I’d just go with it- rhyme or no rhyme.

It’s way too close. They practically rhyme! What about just naming him [name]John[/name] (the original real name) nicknamed [name]Jack[/name]? Except then he’d be [name]John[/name] Jonak, which isn’t that much better… okay, what about [name]Jacob[/name], nicknamed [name]Jack[/name]? Or [name]Jack[/name] could be his middle name, and you’d just call him that.

its a bit ryhmey but still sorta nice . Besides you won’t here him being called jack jonak that much anyhow , maybe only for like attendance in school. it will either be jack or mr. jonak.

[name]Jack[/name] Jonak is roughly as bad as [name]Jonah[/name] Jonak or [name]Jonas[/name] Jonak. There has to be a better choice.

I disagree with your friends, I’m afraid. I think it sounds rhymey and he’ll definitely get teased on the playground (although most kids will, anyway). [name]Do[/name] you have back-up favorites that we can help you out with?

I’m sorry, but I think you have to let go of [name]Jack[/name] (and [name]John[/name]). It’s not terrible, but it just takes away from the handsomeness of the full name too much to have that sort of rhyme-y-ness, so that it no longer makes using [name]Jack[/name] worthwhile. There are lots of other names that would flow will Jonak to make an attractive combo - you should search for the right one.

It’s not horrible but I would definitely try to find something else as well. I agree that it takes away from the name [name]Jack[/name].

I don’t think it sounds very good at all, sorry.

too rhyme-y. Sorry. [name]Do[/name] you want us to help you think of a new first name?
Names that are as fun as [name]Jack[/name] imo:

[name]August[/name]
[name]Bram[/name]

[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name]
[name]Finnian[/name] nn [name]Finn[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]

[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Ted[/name], [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]William[/name] nn [name]Will[/name]

I wouldn’t worry about teasing from other children, but I do think the names are slightly too similar. However, it doesn’t sound bad, just somewhat sing-songy, as others have mentioned.

A name that always reminded me of [name]Jack[/name] is [name]Max[/name], does that appeal to you at all?

OH, also, I think a lot depends on how you pronounce your last name

is the emphasis on the -AK part or the [name]JO[/name]- part? jack jo-NAK vs. jack [name]JO[/name]-nack, if that makes any sense. . .

I’m definitely not a fan of the combination.

[name]Jack[/name] Jonak has a lovely sound, and it is not like everyone he knows will call him [name]Jack[/name] Jonak

Heh heh! This is the husband and I got the name “[name]Jack[/name]” afterall. Of course we technically gave him a first name of “[name]Jackson[/name]” to give him an out if he needs one…
On the other threads that my wife asked this same question, responses were positive. You all need to breathe in and out alittle more and go with the flow…sheesh.

I think it sounds fantastic. It’s strong and cool. There are no rules with these things.

I wouldnt use it. The name is very rhymey and sing songy. Some aliteration is okay but [name]Jack[/name] Jonak is really bad imho.

What about making it [name]Jackson[/name]? That kind of changes it a bit…
