Sinti names?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone :))

I recently watched a tv show which featured some northern Italian Sinti Romani characters. It just got me thinking about Sinti names but there’s very limited information on the internet so I was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge about this? Doesn’t have to be names purely of Romani origin but can also be names that are just frequently used by Sinti families especially in [name_f]Italy[/name_f]? I’m just intrigued and want to learn more…

Thanks!

Not super knowledgeable on this subject, but I found a list of notable Romani people in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] (I tried to find Sinti Italian people specifically but couldn’t)

As you can see most of them use Italian surnames. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps even a little!

It’s really hard to find anything about Sinti names specifically right?!

I would guess that most would be familiar Italian names (largely to avoid prejudice by “blending in” – lots of anti-Romani racism in [name_f]Italy[/name_f])

Not quite what you are looking for but I found some Caló (Spanish / Portuguese Romani language) names here:

@acajou Yeah I kind of assumed that but in a documentary I saw once about racism in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] the only Sinti woman (rather than [name_u]Roma[/name_u]) who was featured was named [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] which didn’t strike me as being typically popular in [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. I’ll check out the Caló list thank you!

Definitely just my assumption! I hope I didn’t come off as too certain

I’m guessing any popularity for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is because of the Italian saint, so maybe saints’ names or ones with religious associations would be more common?

Haha no don’t worry! That’s true actually… I don’t know a lot about saints so I didn’t make that connection but religious names would absolutely make sense
