Due in [name_u]August[/name_u] with surprise gender.
Boy names we have picked out are [name_u]Amos[/name_u] and [name_m]Waylon[/name_m].
If it’s a girl we are stuck!!!
We have one daughter, [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u].
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is a family name that we love but the only gripe with it is that we hate the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f] (it truly just doesn’t fit her at all!) and some people still insist on calling her that, even after we’ve asked them not too. It grinds my gears so much. (Up until her first birthday I considered changing her name to [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f], our second girl name choice but she already knew her name and we felt it was too late to change it)
-if we choose a name that ended in “y” or “ie” for another girl do you think people would call her [name_f]Addie[/name_f] more frequently because of that?
Ex: my husband loves the name [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
Would people call them [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] or am I overthinking it?
For this reason, I’m trying to avoid any names with an obvious nickname.
Examples of names we like but either can’t agree on or just aren’t totally in love: [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (to honor a family member [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]), [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
I don’t think so since we used [name_u]Louise[/name_u] for our first daughters middle name and often call her “[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]” I think it would be confusing!
It’s definitely possible. I could see your example of [name_f]Addie[/name_f] & [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] feeling natural since [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is already a nickname. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] & [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] sound more like sisters than [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] & [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
I would suggest something that matches [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]'s classic feel, but doesn’t really have a natural nickname, like…
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (unless you pronounce [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] with a -leen ending)
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
I’ve always loved [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] goes perfectly too. I do agree a name with similar length and cadence to [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]) would reduce the chances of them being nicknamed.
eg. "our daughter’s are called:
Adeline and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
What abouts [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]?? It would be a nice way to honor [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and has the same feel as [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
I don’t think you should completely write off Ie/y ending names. Is [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] young enough to push a different nickname?? [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f], etc…?
Going off this I’m thinking the shorter the better. [name_m]Prior[/name_m] to getting to this statement I was thinking [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but unfortunately I feel that has the obvious nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
Keeping [name_f]Faye[/name_f] in mind (because if you both agreed to it then why not keep with a winner-)
I think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] would definitely increase the likelihood of having your daughter known as [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. I would definitely avoid names that are either a nickname or do not have a similar cadence to [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries.

[name_f]Willa[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] & [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
Adeline is beautiful! [name_f]My[/name_f] kiddo is at the stage where if you call him anything other than his full name he will say “ I’m not a baby I’m ———“ maybe people will be more receptive when a toddler corrects them.
My nana had a similar desire to name her kids things that could not be shortened. She did not succeed despite her best efforts.
Names I love that would be hard to shorten
[name_f]May[/name_f]/ [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Norah[/name_f]/ [name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
I adore [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] from your list with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
I obviously have to root for my own name, spelt [name_f]Norah[/name_f]. Unlike popular belief, [name_f]Norah[/name_f]/Nora is not a short form of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/Leonora and has its own distinct origins. I think the name [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous and goes along with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and really can’t be shortened much in my view as it’s already a short name.
