Sister for Aerlia

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All

My husband and I are having a hard time agreeing on a name for our second daughter.

Our eldest is called Aerlia and we are trying to find something that goes with that that isn’t too common.

My favourite is [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (which my husband has vetoed). Our other choices are:

  • [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] ( I think this is a bit too long and a big name and might be too ‘big’ a name if she turns out to be shy);
  • [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] (possibly too close to Aerlia); and
  • [name_f]Zalia[/name_f] (we both like this but are concerned that it rhymes with Aerlia).

Many thanks in advance - all thoughts and alternative suggestions are welcome!!!

I do think [name_f]Zalia[/name_f] would be a little matchy with Aerlia. I like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and don’t think it’s too close since [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and Aerlia sound so different. Other suggestions:

[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_m]Etienne[/name_m]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_u]Zola[/name_u]
[name_u]Adria[/name_u]

I love [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. A little softer but to me has a similar feel is [name_f]Sonata[/name_f], which is also less popular. Might be a little out there for you.

I personally love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] a whole lot, but I do feel like it is a little too close to Aerlia (beautiful name, by the way!). My next pick out of yours is [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. Some other names I like are:

[name_f]Xaviera[/name_f] (maybe a bit too close with thte “uh” ending?)
[name_u]Luca[/name_u] (traditionally a male name but is easily feminine, and almost similar to your pick [name_f]Lucia[/name_f].)
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f] (my favorite, but the meaning might make you dislike it.)
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f] / [name_f]Margot[/name_f] (lovely name and either spelling works, but either could also cause confusion with pronunciation.)
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] (you have the nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u], but seems to be used more on the masculine side.)

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!

Thank you all for your beautiful suggestions! I quite like [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], [name_f]Sonata[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. I will run them past my husband.

We have also struck upon [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] since my original post. It still has the ia ending that we seem to gravitate to but not “lia” so not as matchy with Aerlia as [name_f]Zalia[/name_f] might be. What do you think? We like the Sus - ki - ah pronunciation.

Many thanks again!

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] is a beautiful name and if it didn’t sound so odd with my ln I would either have used it already or I would be using it now

[name_f]Sonata[/name_f] with Aerlia still looks so sweet and unique as a sibset though, for me its between those two, either [name_f]Sonata[/name_f] or [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] with Aerlia

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] is a beautiful name and would fit with Aerlia much better than [name_f]Zalia[/name_f] in my opinion.

[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] and Aerlia stand out the most for me from your original three. It has great nn options so it doesn’t have to be a big name to carry. Also, I always thought of [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]'s as being shy. Usually [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]'s cards are from secret admirers. I think of it as a soft and sweet name more than flashy and loud. If that helps you.

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is too close to me. [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] would be better. I think you should use different initials.

  1. [name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Sonata[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
  5. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
  6. [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
  7. [name_f]Zalia[/name_f]
