Hiya Berries, its been a long time but I’m so happy to be back! Got a positive test result this morning and after checking it was cool to have my morning coffee (thank you to Dr. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] Oster for writing Expecting Better!), it wasnt long before my thoughts returned to baby names
For a long long time, my top boy and girl names have been [name_u]Basil[/name_u] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] but I’ve never been convinced I can have both. When my husband and I lived in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], [name_u]Basil[/name_u] felt too likely to be mispronounced, so I shelved him and kept up the search for other boy names. Then to my absolute delight, the tides turned and we got the opportunity to move to [name_u]England[/name_u] where [name_u]Basil[/name_u] feels very at home!
Now [name_u]Basil[/name_u] is back on the table and I am so excited (although hubby has yet to come around I’ll work on him!). But the downside is that [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] feels like a much too commonplace name over here for a popularity-phobe like me
So I’ve come for the helpful suggestions of the Berries! This pregnancy is our first but I’m all about being prepared with sibling names. What girl names would you suggest that pair well with [name_u]Basil[/name_u] as a brother and are uncommon in the UK?
Congrats mama!!! [name_u]Basil[/name_u] is super sweet! I’ll come up with a few suggestions but seriously, I’d [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] is in your heart you can go for it!
A few suggestions for fun:
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] and…
Hello! Envious of you living in the UK (I’m in the US). [name_u]Basil[/name_u] is fabulous but would be a bit odd over here, I think (and not in the good way). BIG CONGRATS on your positive result! That’s so exciting!
The first one that comes to mind is [name_f]Elswyth[/name_f]. It’s lovely and outrageously underused and sounds like it belongs in a [name_f]British[/name_f] fairy tale (yet is very usable in the real world, especially with [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], or Withy available as nicknames!)
But if that’s not your taste, try:
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_f]Odelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_u]Alcott[/name_u]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_u]Nairne[/name_u] (a current crush of mine)
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] (unsure how you feel about alliterative)
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_u]Blythe[/name_u]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_f]Elvina[/name_f]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_u]Faine[/name_u] (might be my favorite!)
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_f]Winsome[/name_f]
[name_u]Basil[/name_u] & [name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] or [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] would be my picks!
I wonder, though, how popular [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] is? Doesn’t seem to be in top 150-200 names so I think you’d be safe using it - [name_f]Tabby[/name_f], [name_f]Tibby[/name_f] etc would be so sweet with [name_u]Basil[/name_u]!
