Sister for Cecily

WDYT of the following names to go with Cecily?

  • Odette
  • Willa
  • Viola
  • Theodora
0 voters

We also have a few ‘maybe’ names on the list which I’ve not included in the poll but will list them here for feedback:
Florence, Anastasia, Olive and Beatrix

The later four names aren’t set because they’re quite popular and I usually like names that are recognisable but are outside of the top 100 names so you hear them less (like Cecily which ranks #709 in England and Wales) I’m therefore really torn as I love our ‘maybes’ too.

Thank you in advance x

I love [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] & [name_f]Odette[/name_f] as a sibset, with [name_f]Florence[/name_f] & [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] coming in close behind.

[name_f]Odette[/name_f] got my vote—I adore her in general, but she makes a great sister for [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]! Second choice would be [name_f]Viola[/name_f], who also makes a great sister for [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] imo. Good luck!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] is cute! Here are my favorite to least favorite rankings for a little sister:

Beatrix-This is popular in your area? I never hear it here in the Midwest U.S. I love it though so much! It’s my dog’s middle name. :dog: So so adorable with [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], but alas, I completely understand not wanting to use a name that’s over used in your neighborhood.

Olive-Gosh, I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] too. It’s also not popular here, but I can see it rising the charts soon enough as an alternative to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. It’s so artsy & spunky & feminine but not frilly. I love the nn [name_f]Livy[/name_f] but not [name_f]Liv[/name_f] for some reason. Most people seem to like [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I also don’t mind [name_f]Ollie[/name_f].

Theodora-This is my favorite from the ‘not too popular’ list. It’s gorgeous. It’s dramatic & romantic, but still kind of quiet & bookish & charming. I like the natural nn of [name_f]Thea[/name_f] a lot as well. [name_f]Dora[/name_f] not as much, but [name_f]Thea[/name_f] feels more natural anyway.

Willa-This is sweet & feels like a clever little girl with a book and pigtails. I also like [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Willa[/name_f] for what it’s worth. It works nicely with [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. I don’t like it quite as much as the lovely [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] though.

Florence-I don’t know…I want to like it. It’s old fashioned & has botanical vibes. I love the nn [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is just stuffy sounding to me.

Viola-This is okay. I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but [name_f]Viola[/name_f] something about [name_f]Viola[/name_f] isn’t as pretty to my ears.

Anastasia-This has always seemed way too heavy & dramatic for my tastes. I love the nns [name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Ani[/name_f] & [name_f]Anya[/name_f] though.

Odette-This is winning by a bit in the polls! I want to like it. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the [name_m]French[/name_m] vibes. I just don’t like how it reminds me of the word ‘odd’.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] my rambling helps.

[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] got my vote! Clunky cool and strong with the same sophisticated feel of [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]!

[name_f]Odette[/name_f] would be my second choice - snappy, stylish and lovely!

[name_f]Viola[/name_f] is beautiful too - melodic and lovely! How do you pronounce it - vee-oh-luh, vie-oh-luh, or something else?

I like [name_f]Willa[/name_f] too - bright and spirited - but just not my favourite with [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].

[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] are lovely, familiar but not oversaturated

Thank you for all your help so far.

I live in England and judging popularity from the rankings listed on Behind The Name.

Cecily is showing as #709 on there. Anastasia and Beatrix are #135 and #164 so not overly popular but the latest listings on there are from 2021. Florence and Olive are #8 and #74 where as Theodora that ranks #384 and the rest of the names on our list haven’t even ranked for 2021.

As you can see, there’s quite a jump in popularity compared to Cecily’s name but I’ve never met anyone with any of the names we’re considering so maybe I’m over thinking it? :joy:
