Sister for Charlotte

I am trying to narrow down my selection for a girl baby name. I have a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Blaire[/name_f]. Our last name is 2 syllables with an -ee ending. We are very traditional and I prefer elegant, feminine names. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I both agree on the name [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but I prefer it as a middle name because it sounds short as a first name and it is hard to match with a middle name.

[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- can I use [name_f]Elise[/name_f] as a nn? Would that be unusual and not make sense to others?
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]- is this too on the nose as another city name?
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]- possibly too -ey
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]- don’t love the nn “Maddie”
[name_f]Piper[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]- don’t love the nn [name_f]Abby[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]- is this too royal family vibes?

Any input or other suggestions I’m not thinking of are appreciated!!

I think [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] are my favourite from your list! What about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Elise[/name_f]?

Some suggestions:

Welcome to Nameberry!

Laurel Elise – Laurel is beautiful and unexpected! I don’t love the -el El- back to back with Elise, but it’s not a deal-breaker.

Elizabeth Rose – I think Elise works as a nickname. At this point, I would expect an Elizabeth can have any nickname, haha – there are so many! Honestly though, I would just go with Elise Rose. Love the French feel with Charlotte.

Savannah - Savannah doesn’t strike me as very traditional, and it does feel very “Southern city” with Charlotte. Susannah, maybe?

Felicity – I think this would be fine with your last name because of the differing syllable counts, unless it shares other sounds. Love it with Charlotte!

Madeline – I did grow up with someone who was always Madeline, so it is possible to avoid Maddie! How would you feel if she chose to go by Maddie, though?

Piper Elise – Similar to Savannah. While Piper is great, it doesn’t fit the “elegant and feminine” brief.

Abigail Elise – Similar to Madeline. I do know a few who have avoided Abby, but how would you feel if she chose Abby as a nickname down the line?

Amelia Elise – A great fit with Charlotte, but also quite popular like Charlotte. If popularity is not a concern, I think this is a great choice!

Katherine Elise – Not too royal family, especially with this spelling. Just a classic!

My top picks would be (in order): Felicity, Amelia, Katherine, Laurel.

A few suggestions: Evelyn, Adelaide, Alice, Eliza, Lydia, Georgia, Evangeline, Helena, Penelope, Hazel, Alexandra, Annabelle, Nora

Oh, I’m loving [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Blaire[/name_f]! [name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f]!
I also like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], but the [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] thing might be hard to fight.

I really like Elizabeth Rose nn Elsie - Elise makes perfect sense as a legitimate diminutive, but you could use the “Elisabeth” spelling (which I personally prefer) so an even stronger connection. You can even use Elsie as a nickname for Elisabeth.

So I would go Elisabeth Rose but I might even choose something like Elisabeth Sloane/Greer/Hazel/Kit/Piper/Tess/Maren/Frances/Helen - I love the name Rose but these others might better mirror Blaire.

My equal fave is Katherine Elise - I’d personally use Kit/Kitty as a nickname (I’m not a big fan of Kath/Kathy and I just prefer Kitty over Katie but obv Katie is an option too!). This isn’t too thematically regal, there’re just established, beautiful names.

I wouldn’t choose Madeline or Abigail if you don’t like those nicknames. I have the same problem with Felicity (don’t like the nn’s), and I’m borderline about Amelia (because of the Meels thing - do you like Millie/Amy?). If you choose Amelia, I wouldn’t use Elise as a middle - too similar for me, would pick something more solid - eg Amelia Katherine (or one from list above). I wouldn’t pick Savannah myself - the place thing doesn’t concern me but I don’t like Sav/Savvy and I don’t see this name in the same way as the more tailored, classic, Charlotte. But they do go well together if it’s a fave. Piper is cool but again, a more modern and hip choice. And finally, Laurel is delightful but don’t think it enunciates as well as your others.

Other options: Adelaide (nn Daisy/Laidy/Ada etc), Margaret (Maggie, Margot, Peggy, Meg - I have a friend called Peggy and love saying her name, like all these nicknames), Tabitha (I like Tibby as a nickname), Elodie (but with Katherine middle), Josephine (Josie, Posey, Sephie, Poppy), or Arabella (though def a lot of Belle names out there).

I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] the most from your list. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] totally makes sense as a nickname, and frankly more intuitive than various other nicknames [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] can get. If you’re still worried maybe [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling works better?

Also loving [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] a lot for you.

[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] - even more of a stretch, but you get [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sound out of this too so I think it could be a nn
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Blaire[/name_f] is lovely

I like:

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] → classic and elegant. Since [name_f]Elise[/name_f] comes from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], it could work. [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] ‘Elise’ might be more obvious but since [name_m]Eli[/name_m]zabeth [name_f]Ro[/name_f]se could also make sense.

[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] → I think it depends if you live, how obvious that connection to the cities would be? Where I am, it wouldn’t be so bad, but it might be worth mentioning that to people around you?

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] → such a joyful, bright name. Based on your username, I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [surname] could work, but I’d probably go with a different middle to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] for this one

[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] → charming and warm with a hint of unexpectedness

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] - lovely, elegant name, but if you don’t ever want [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], I’d avoid

[name_f]Piper[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] → bright and sassy

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] → another solid, classic name, but she would probably get ‘Abby’ sometimes

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] → it’s okay, but I find it a bit tongue-twistery. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] do go well together. Maybe a different middle? [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Piper[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] → elegant and classy and it does have royal vibes with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - I guess it depends how much that bothers you, how much you mind that people will bring it up.

Other suggestions/thoughts:

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]

Charl0tte Bla.ir is such a pretty name!

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts on your names

[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is such a lovely nature name that feels peaceful and a little kooky. I think she would make a lovely slightly unusual choice for C sister. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] makes a pretty middle name.
Suggestion: [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] & [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ~ beautiful! I absolutely love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] my daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (I pushed for her first name to be [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but got vetoed) I also adore [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is such a favourite of mine! This name is beautiful. I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a stretch but have you considered [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] could work as a nickname for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].
Suggestion: [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] + [name_f]Vivian[/name_f]

[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] ~ feels a little bit past trend maybe a bit 2010s if that makes sense. I don’t know for me [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] has never appealed and doesn’t feel in keeping with C.
Suggestions: [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Selene[/name_f] + [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] ~ I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! She’s beautiful, glamorous and elegant. I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] has this chic urban city at night feel. Walking alongside the river, winter chill in the air, the rush of the city being framed by twinkling lights. I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a little trippy in relation to flow so maybe [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]?
Suggestions: [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] + [name_f]Clemency[/name_f]

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] ~ completely see the appeal in ‘mad’ names however personally they aren’t my favourite I prefer the [name_f]Addie[/name_f] names like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. I also wouldn’t use [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] if you dislike [name_f]Maddie[/name_f].
Suggestions: [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] + [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]

[name_f]Piper[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] ~ A lovely, sleek, stylish name that feels very compact and modern. I think [name_f]Piper[/name_f] wouldn’t be my automatic sister name for C however I think sometimes we focus so much on sibling set cohesion which is unnecessary so if you love the name go for it. Also [name_f]Piper[/name_f] is very in keeping with Bl@ir.
Suggestion: [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Paisley[/name_f], [name_f]Winslet[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] + [name_f]Harper[/name_f]

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] ~ I absolutely love [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. I used to not be a fan of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] however now I’m in love she’s wholesome, warm and joyous. She works so well with big sister name however if you’re not keen on [name_f]Abby[/name_f] I would avoid.
Suggestions: [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] + [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] ~ I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is such a pretty classic that feels well rounded and elegant. I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] makes such a natural sister for C. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is also a lovely middle name for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] super pretty.
Suggestions: [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] + [name_f]Anna[/name_f]

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, super elegant and graceful. I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] makes a pretty sister name for C. I appreciate the concerns about the sibling set is too ‘royal’ however as a [name_f]Brit[/name_f] this was not my first thought so I wouldn’t worry too much. I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sounds pretty.
Suggestions: [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Simone[/name_f] + [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]

[name_f]Elise[/name_f] is beautiful! Are you going to call her [name_f]Elise[/name_f]? I believe it works well as a first name. From your list, [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] would be lovely.
I adore [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] sounds refreshing as a first name and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is absolutely marvelous. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is not the most common nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (I think), but it’s very intuitive! In fact, [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a short form/variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

With [name_f]Elise[/name_f] as a middle name and considering your oldest daughter’s name, I really like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] would be nice too.
Since you don’t care about [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] and [name_f]Abby[/name_f], I would eliminate [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is my favorite from your list! I think it’s a beautiful combo and both names work by themselves for what you’re describing as well.

I agree with a lot of your comments next to the names! I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is too similar sounding and a bit of a mouthful when saying it. [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] together feel very themed to me since both are cities. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is a great name but [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] has a lot of that ee sound in it. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] might definitely get shortened to [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] and [name_f]Abby[/name_f] (even if you don’t ask for it) so if you aren’t a fan of those names I wouldn’t use them.

I like [name_f]Piper[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
