I think with the sibset you have, Persephone and Lorelie are my favorites! Persephone seems to fit better with your other girl’s names, though I might sightly prefer Lorelie. Either are beautiful options and I don’t think Persephone is too frilly!
In Gilmore Girls the character is named Lorelai (pronounced Lor-A-Lie) it depends on where you live, and you might get some comments at first, but I think the name is established enough to overcome the association. If you’re concerned, you could go with the pronounciation Lor-A-Lee instead!
I like [name_f]Lorelie[/name_f]
My vote goes to [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]! It’s adventurous and mythological, with a cool sound. It’s a perfect fit with your sibset.
I voted for [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]!
Unless you feel strongly about them (and it appears you don’t), I’d recommend nixing [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] because you already have H and C covered with your other daughters. [name_f]Lorelie[/name_f] ([name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]?) doesn’t seem to fit the style of the others.
That leaves your two P choices, [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. I wouldn’t worry about the Outlander association of [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] - if anything, [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is likely the more “popular” choice because the myth is so familiar.
Although I slightly prefer [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is also a nice choice in that it helps balance [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] against the other two names ending in -a. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Sibylla[/name_f], and [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] could sound a bit stacked against poor outlier [name_f]Hermione[/name_f].
I know you said you aren’t looking for suggestions, but I just can’t help it - would you consider [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]?
It ticks the boxes of 1) Greek/mythological roots (not that you identified that box, but I couldn’t help see the connection from your prospective list and the names you’ve already chosen), 2) unique letter compared with her sisters, and 3) shares the long -e ending with [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] that could add overall balance to the sibset.
Good luck!
I would go for [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] or [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f].
Means all have own starting initial, and they have excellent nn options - eg for [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Posey[/name_f], Sephie, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_u]Percy[/name_u] or, for [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_m]Eddy[/name_m] etc.
But if you want to lower the drama and highlight the prettiness (versus the boldness) of your others, I’d go for [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] / [name_f]Lorelie[/name_f] (I prefer former spelling).
Other names you might like that still mean all own letters: [name_f]Odessa[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/en, [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], [name_f]Anoushka[/name_f].
I’d go for [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]!
My recommendations:
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] {and} [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] {or, from your list, [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]}
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] {and} [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] {or, from your list, [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]}
[name_f]Sibylla[/name_f] {and} [name_f]Hestia[/name_f]
I would agree with pp’s that it would be great for each of the girls to have their own initials. The ones that double don’t seem right to me when I put the girls’ names together to test.
[name_f]Lorelie[/name_f] doesn’t fit with the others, imo. [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is far top strongly tied to the mythological character so that gives credence to the ‘popular’ feeling a pp suggested due to her story’s fame.
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] is the best of your choices imo. Having a character by that name in Outlander is not going to make it too popular if you ask me. Look at the widely popular Game of Thrones. Yes, some names get buoyed up, but just because a name appears there doesn’t mean it rises to true popularity. The only ones from that series that rose significantly, from my knowledge, are [name_u]Arya[/name_u] and [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f] (which is crazy to me as it is a title, not a name, but that’s a topic for another day).
Btw, I love your name selections. Great job
I both love and think fit beautifully with her siblings, [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] & [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. Yes, [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] & [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] are quite ‘frilly’ but to me, so are [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] & [name_f]Sibylla[/name_f] so they all fit perfectly together. I don’t think Outlander’s [name_f]Phaedre[/name_f] will cause it to become overly popular - I don’t think she’s too central a character to become commonplace.
If I had to chose one for your sister-set, I’d go [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] – different initial ([name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]) and avoiding the similar endings ([name_f]Hermione[/name_f] & [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]). Ultimately though, my own personal favourite from your list is [name_f]Persephone[/name_f].
So I said all of your daughter’s names in sequence with each of the options before voting, and I only voted for one name: Phaedra. I think it fits perfectly into your set and while all of the options are beautiful, I think it possesses those same qualities that you love so much about Sibylla while still being distinct. If I were to consider another name it would be Persephone which would also fit in nicely, though I find the -ne ending between Hermione and Persephone just a little matchy. (I know the other names end in --a but they are still pretty distinct from each other. -ia, -la, and -dra for example all sound quite different whereas the -ne creates the exact same sound.) Really this is a pretty small consideration though.
Some asides:
I don’t find the name Cressida frilly at all, I actually find it quite harsh sounding, though no unattractive.
In Gilmore girls both main Characters are names Lorelai, though one goes by the nickname Rory. When I consider that name and spelling when I was pregnant nearly everyone I mentioned it to did bring up Gilmore Girls.
While not a hugely popular name it is popular compared to your other choices and is definitely tied very strongly to that particular pop culture reference.
Persephone it still outside of the top 100, but I feel like it’s going to crack inti it soon. I’ve noticed a rise in buzz around it and have seen more people considering it, but I wouldn’t call it popular now. It feels like a name that’s going to climb considerably over the next 5-10 years though. It’s a name of love and is in our top two considerations, though Isadora has become my favorite.
I’m not concerned by the Outlander association. The books and show have a big but niche audience. I don’t really see a mainstream boom happening for this name despite its beauty.
Hestia is a very cool name on it’s own merit but I do think already having an H name in you set eliminates it. I can tell you go for an atmosphere of individuality with each name and that would detract from that just a bit.
I voted for [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], and [name_f]Lorelie[/name_f] - I prefer the [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] spelling.
My daughter is called [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and we get lots of nice comments on how unusual and pretty it is, some people mention gilmore girls but not many and it’s never negative. It’s definitely not a name you hear a lot of we haven’t met any others so far, my daughter is 3.
Thanks for everyone’s input x I’m having a c-section on [name_f]Monday[/name_f] & my husband & I have made a pact to have 24 hours with her before going firm on a name x
This may be offbeat, but while I think the sound of [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] fits well w/her sisters’ names, it’s only two syllables long & the others are 4, 4, & 3. Would [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] work for a similar sound but longer name?
Like others, I’d skip [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] because of already having a name beginning w/H, plus at least for me it seems slight in sound when compared to the others. I’d also skip [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] because of already having a name beginning w/C.
That leaves [name_f]Lorelie[/name_f] & [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]…my favorite is [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]: 4 syllables, different first initial, & enough familiarity w/the name to make it easier for most people to spell & pronounce it. Additionally, then you’d have two names that end in -a & two that end in -e.
If you really like [name_f]Lorelie[/name_f], I’d use the traditional spelling of [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]…autocorrect kept changing the spelling each time I typed the name, & I think enough people are familiar w/[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] to not have issues w/the spelling. Plus the traditional spelling of [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] goes nicely w/the mythological background of [name_f]Sibylla[/name_f]. A bonus w/[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is that the ending is not an -a, so that you’d have two sisters whose names end in -a, one in -e, & one in -i. As far as the [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls references, I believe the show has been off the air for a while, so the association should be diminishing.
Good luck & please let us know what you choose!
I would go [name_f]Lorelie[/name_f] (LOR-lai?)
You already have H and C names, and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] sounds a bit like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]. [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] makes 3 names ending in -a, which I personally wouldn’t like, but it’s ultimately your choice!
I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], and [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f] as a sibset-- great names! I voted for [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] as the best option out of your short list as it has the Greek connection. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] would be second. While I like some of the other names, I wouldn’t do the same starting initial so this eliminates [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] and [name_f]Hestia[/name_f]. Then [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and Herminone have the same ending sound so I wouldn’t use that either. I don’t think any of the names are too popular so I would not worry about this. Would you consider [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]? That’s my first choice for a sister name for this sibset.
Some other possibilties:
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f], and
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Davina[/name_f]
[name_u]Demeter[/name_u]
Despoina
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]
[name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
Ivelisse
[name_f]Jacinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocasta[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Letitia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucretia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Perdita[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
They all go well, but I went with [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] because it “mushes” together least with the other names. Basically saying it has some distinct sounds.
