I really like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Elva[/name_f] with [name_f]Freya[/name_f], with [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] probably being my favourite. I was wondering how [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f] are prn. in Iceland? With a soft s like [name_f]Elza[/name_f] or like the English version?
The z sound doesn’t exist in Icelandic, so both have the unvoiced s sound Thanks for your feedback!
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see you back around, jackal!
My favorites are:
[name_f]Elva[/name_f]: Although I prefer Ylva/Ylfa since it would have the I sound in the beginning to differentiate a tad more from Freyja
[name_f]Inga[/name_f]: I like it because it’s straightforward. I’ll admit that I also liked the subtle Freyr-Freyja connection with the name, since I believe Ing may has been connected to Freyr. I also really like Ingimar as a sibling for the same reason
Sóley: Pronunciation seemed easy to me; I also just like the way it sounds with Freyja.
I love [name_f]Elva[/name_f] with Freyja because both of them have a mythical connection. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] would be my second pick, though it’s not quite as exciting in my opinion.
Objectively [name_f]Inga[/name_f] would probably also be a good choice, but to me it just sounds very old-lady-like. I think it’s because it was my grandmother’s name and I just can’t imagine it on a child.
[name_f]Inga[/name_f] has a retro chic vibe for me that I can really appreciate, but I still wildly prefer [name_f]Elva[/name_f] or Sóley as sisters to Freyja!
[name_f]Elva[/name_f] is sweet, I have a slight preference for [name_u]Alva[/name_u], but sweet name anyway. However I might think it’s a little too sweet? Freyja has some bite to her that I think Sóley can better keep up with. Sóley would be my pick. (My best friend, one of the most fabulous people I know is named S0lhild, so the resemblance probably also helps with convincing me. And I love Soleia ^^)
Wouldn’t go with [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], it’s a little too mundane for me next to the Freyja spelling, and I’m not fond of it being a variant of [name_f]El[/name_f]ísabet which you already used.
Salka holds little appeal to me… I find myself wanting to add -rt at the end, salkart is the Norwegian word for a map of the seating, typically in a concert hall or cinema that you use to pick which seats you want. Selja/[name_f]Silja[/name_f] would be sweet, but Salka is not one I would go for…
Salka and Sóley are my favourites with Freyja. [name_f]Elva[/name_f] is also gorgeous. I wouldn’t use [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] since Freyja’s middle name is [name_f]El[/name_f]ísabet, but I’m kind of picky when it comes to those things. I remember hearing about Sóley from one of your previous threads and I was and still am intrigued by it. A plus in my book is that it doesn’t have the same a-ending that Freyja has.
