I’ve posted about this a few times before but our time is running out! We have a daughter named [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (after both of our grandmothers.) We are expecting another girl in [name_f]September[/name_f].
What goes well with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]? The middle name will be [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] - another family name. Right now our top contender is [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. My husband is slightly concerned for two reasons. He’s worried it’s too french and it’s similar to his sister’s name - [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. His suggestions were [name_u]Madison[/name_u] and [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], not quite my style. He did not like [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], or [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
I do not like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] on its own (too diminutive) and I’m not loving [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. Help Berries!
Some other ‘[name_f]Evie[/name_f]’ names could be [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u]
@grebyblue I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], but it’s a close cousin’s name. [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] are not quite right. But I will suggest [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]!
I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] & [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] make a great sibset and it could be an honor name for his sister. Its becoming more main stream
But if you decide against it
First thing that came to mind was [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]”
I don’t have the extensive knowledge of many others on here, but I love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] as well. If you think it’s too similar to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], how about [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]? Another name I love that could get you to [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a nickname is [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] sounds great!
Thank you all! I sent my husband a bunch of options and he didn’t like them lol, but he did say he would look at them again. I’m patiently waiting for him to respond to me.
The more I think about it, this baby does feel like an [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is too popular. I don’t want to go any more popular than [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is a touch too modern for me.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is my favourite name at the moment, perhaps we are on the same wavelength!
I immediately thought of:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
Some other ideas:
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f])
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f])
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] ([name_f]Etta[/name_f])
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] ([name_f]Etta[/name_f])
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Heather[/name_f]
Also, if baby feels like an [name_f]Evie[/name_f] then perhaps just go with that! It’s a beautiful choice all by itself! [name_f]Evie[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is gorgeous.
Lastly, have you considered Evangeline? A beautiful, classic name and pathway to nn Evie.
FWIW I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] go perfectly together and using [name_f]Evie[/name_f] seems to be the solution to all the problems your husband has with [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. All the best deciding!
If you like the idea of [name_f]Evie[/name_f] but aren’t fond of [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], maybe you could go for a more roundabout way of getting to the nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f]? My first thought is [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] or [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - I don’t think getting to [name_f]Evie[/name_f] from either of these would be too big of a stretch. Plus either of them would go nicely with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]–they both have that classic, vintage feel. According to Nameberry, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is currently #42 in popularity, while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is #96 and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is #268.
Other possibilities with roundabout ways of getting to [name_f]Evie[/name_f]:
Thank you all so much! My husband nixed [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but he’s out of town so, I haven’t had an actual good conversation with him yet. Honestly, I’m loving [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. I think it’s my best friend’s top name choice, but I can’t remember…
I don’t think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] especially with [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is my middle name and I’m surprised how many guys have never heard of it, but I think a little girl would love it.
Other [name_f]Evie[/name_f] ideas:
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
An E-V combo like [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] or [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] a lot with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and I also really like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. However, I don’t think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is too close at all to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], it also sounds great with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
Overall, I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] would be my first choice, followed closely by [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] are cute, the flow isn’t ideal for me, but still very pretty.
