We are expecting another little girl in [name]January[/name] and she needs a name! We were thinking of continuing with precious gemstones but coming up with a name we like is then pretty limited!
[name]Ruby[/name] seems like an obvious choice, but last year was the number 1 name here in New Zealand, and would really like to avoid anything too popular, although [name]Ruby[/name] was my maternal grandmothers name.
I have just discovered [name]Olivine[/name] online which sounds pretty but it could be too out there? I also like [name]Indigo[/name], do you think that could fit in with her sisters?
[name]Gem[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Emerald[/name]
[name]Sapphire[/name]
[name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Topaz[/name]
[name]Amber[/name]
[name]Amethyst[/name]
[name]Peridot[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name] is a great choice. [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Amber[/name] are pretty.
I just discovered [name]Olivine[/name] the other day too I think it has great potential as a name but for your girls, [name]Jade[/name], [name]Opal[/name] and [name]Olivine[/name] is too unbalanced of a sibset. Especially since [name]Opal[/name] and [name]Olivine[/name] are so similar and [name]Jade[/name] isn’t. [name]Indigo[/name] on the other hand is perfect, it’s a fellow colour name with [name]Jade[/name] and shares the distinct “oh” sound of [name]Opal[/name].
Carrying on the gemstone theme may be little excessive so I’d suggest you do it subtly by either using the name of a gemstone in another language, using a name that sounds like a gem (I can’t think of many but [name]Ruben[/name] is an example for boys, [name]Dottie[/name] from [name]Peridot[/name], [name]Goldie[/name] from [name]Gold[/name], [name]Paz[/name] from [name]Topaz[/name], [name]Azul[/name] or [name]Azure[/name] from [name]Lapis[/name] Lazuli, [name]Agatha[/name] from [name]Agate[/name], [name]Cornelia[/name] from Cornelian, [name]Coralie[/name] from [name]Coral[/name]) or using a name whose meaning pertains to gems ([name]Gemma[/name], [name]Margo[/name], [name]Electa[/name], [name]Bijou[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name] means “jewel of the sea”).
Helmi, [name]Margarita[/name] & [name]Perla[/name] are all [name]Pearl[/name] in Finnish, Latin and Italian/Spanish respectively.
Omra and [name]Ambra[/name] are [name]Amber[/name] in Irish and Italian
[name]Safira[/name], [name]Sapphira[/name] and Safaia are [name]Sapphire[/name] in Portuguese, Greek and Japanese
[name]Esmeralda[/name], Spanish for [name]Emerald[/name], offers [name]Esme[/name] or [name]Emma[/name]
And [name]Jasper[/name] in the meantime would be a great name to reserve for a boy.
As you’re expecting her around January, you could go with [name]Garnet[/name] after the month’s birthstone
I really love [name]Ruby[/name] but it is the obvious choice. [name]How[/name] about …
[name]Coral[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Jaspar[/name] - I know it’s commonly a boy name but I think it could work for a little girl.
[name]Jetta[/name] - [name]Stone[/name] from Gagai
[name]Violet[/name] - [name]Jade[/name] and [name]Opal[/name] could also be colors … Also, [name]Scarlett[/name] or [name]Mauve[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] - fits into the color trend also has 4 letters like [name]Jade[/name] and [name]Opal[/name]
[name]Mica[/name]
