We are struggling to decide between these four names.
I really like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] but am worried about it being too trendy with the [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] movie. I’m also not sure if the sound is too matchy with [name_u]Leo[/name_u].
I love the long form [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but I know that in the UK it’s extremely likely to get shortened to [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], which I don’t love.
Is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? I know [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is super popular and don’t want her to blend in.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is the least used of the four I believe but, again, I don’t love the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and I want a name to work on a young woman and at different life stages, not just be cute on a little girl.
Our surname ends with the ‘ee’ sound.
Thoughts very welcome!

I personally like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] the most but I feel that [name_f]Margot[/name_f] fits best with [name_u]Leo[/name_u], in terms of how they sound together and look. It’s already a well-known name and I don’t think it’ll be that much popular even with the [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] movie.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f]- [name_m]Classic[/name_m] and timeless. Since It’s an established name I don’t think the [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] movie will effect it. I really think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is sweet and bold and beautiful!
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]- Elegant, and works so well with [name_u]Leo[/name_u], but I agree she will get [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. Maybe enforcing another nickname would put it off, such as “Dellie”, or “Addie”? Still, I think it’s pretty perfect with [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and if you really don’t want [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], you can tell people before hand “We prefer just Madeline.”
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]- Too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] for me, so even though it’s not popular, I think of it as common. I think this name does blend in, but it’s still sweet and pretty.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]- [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], in my opinion, works well on all ages. I actually see her as sophisticated and refined, and compared to other names that are much more childish, she seems regal and melodic!
I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] best, and then [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] would be my top pick, but I think the Ls are a little trippy with [name_u]Leo[/name_u].

What about [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]? Unranked and beautiful. Seems like it could be a good combo of all your choices.
[name_f]Eveline[/name_f] too 🩵
[name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]

[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] to NB!!!
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] has been trending upward (at least in the States) so I get your concern. Of these, I would honestly probably go with [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. Nickname could be [name_f]Lo[/name_f], [name_f]Lolo[/name_f] or [name_f]Didi[/name_f] instead.
A few other suggestions:
[name_f]Maren[/name_f] (less common but still M)
[name_f]Merewen[/name_f] (same, and a bit more whimsy)
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] (less common, Winnie)
Hopefully this helps!

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is lovely - warm and vintage - but it is on the rise - but then, [name_u]Leo[/name_u] is popular too so
[name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are kind of matchy, but not in a bad way.
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is elegant and pretty too, but most Madeleines I’ve met have got called [name_f]Maddie[/name_f].
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is gorgeous - light and pretty. I do think it might be confused more with [name_f]Emily[/name_f], but it’s familiar enough, that people hopefully notice the difference?
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is melodic and lovely! The [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] I met was exclusively [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], and I feel like Elle/El is more likely than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for some reason here?
I’d go with [name_f]Margot[/name_f] here or [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - probably [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]

I really like all of the options you have! If I had to pick I’d probably go with [name_f]Margot[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].

Huge congratulations
I love Le0
I really like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] she ranks at #103 in the UK popularity charts she’s stylish, elegant and I love the shared ‘o’ sound. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is more on the radar than before I still never really encounter any Margot’s. I think the name isn’t incredibly popular and I wouldn’t be overly worried. I also do not think the o sound is too OTT.
I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is very elegant and romantic but the [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] names have never appealed to me on a greater level. I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] will get shortened to [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] which could be hard to prevent as that’s the most natural nickname and in the UK we love a nickname. With [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] not being a name that appeals to you I would scratch off. However if popularity is a huge concern for you she’s the least popular on your list ranking at #398.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] ranks at #83 in UK popularity charts she is beautiful and yes they look visually similar however they do have a completely different sound/feel. I think there are more similarities between [name_f]Emily[/name_f] + [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] sound wise. Either way [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a beautiful name with a pan European sound which works wonderfully with Le0.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] ranks at #93 in the UK popularity charts in the UK she is the second most popular choice from your list and feels very fashionable. I think [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is beautiful and has a lovely melodic feel. Nickname wise you could go with [name_f]Dee[/name_f] or [name_f]Deedee[/name_f] that would be sweet.

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] are my favorites - I think [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is very sweet, or so is [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] has been popular for quite some time… [name_f]Margot[/name_f] itself is pretty well loved around here but I’m not sure it’s trendy? I don’t know that that many more people are familiar with [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] as a household name after [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] vs. before, but I admittedly haven’t seen the film. It is a nice name; I admittedly prefer Marguerite/Greta/Daisy/just [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] from the [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] family, though; [name_f]Margot[/name_f] doesn’t do much for me. It’s a lovely name, just not my style.
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] - I know [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] hit big here about a decade ago and I feel like most people are kind of over [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], especially because of Maddie… but I love her. I am also a big fan of [name_f]Madelaine[/name_f] (mad-eh-layne) or [name_f]Madelief[/name_f] (mad-eh-leef) if you want something a bit more unusual, but neither gets you away from [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. Have you considered opting for another nickname? You could always counteract [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] with a simple “We call her Della” (or Leni/Lenny, or [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], etc.! I think all of them work really well for Madeleine).
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] look very similar but sound worlds apart to me, I would be tickled pink to know an [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] in real life. I don’t know that I would be able to use it; one of my best friends in the world was an [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and I just can’t bring myself to consider it after her passing. But it would bring me so much joy to meet someone with this name, it’s absolutely beautiful and feels so memorable to me.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - not my favorite, but I named my last car (which was quite persnickety and cantankerous!) [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. Again, I would offer up an alternate nn for Ellie; I am not an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] fan at all either, and would only use an [name_f]El[/name_f]- name if there was an alternate nn I could offer up. I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], Liddy/Lydie, [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] are all reasonable and lovely nns for [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]! [name_f]My[/name_f] car happened to be Liddy for short, haha.
All these are great, but I think my favorite with [name_u]Leo[/name_u] is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. But my favorite in general is [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].
Good luck!
