Sister for Louisa

We’re expecting our second baby girl in [name_u]June[/name_u], and we’re a bit stuck on which name to go with for [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s younger sister. I’d love to have people vote or throw out names that seem to synch well with our current ideas!

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] – Really love this name, and love the nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f], but we dislike how similar it is to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_m]Will[/name_m] she constantly be saying, “With an ‘E’”?

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] – We call [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] “[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]”, and we think a [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] sister pair could be really cute, but it could also be really too much. We also like the nn [name_f]Posey[/name_f], but again, is that nn a stretch?

Other contenders:
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is one of my favorites! I was going to suggest [name_f]Jane[/name_f] until I saw it was her middle. From your list, I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] are the best fits. Suggestions:

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]! I do think that [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] and [name_f]LuLu[/name_f] is a bit too much but what about other nicknames such as [name_u]Josie[/name_u] or [name_u]Jo[/name_u]? [name_f]Posey[/name_f] is lovely and works really well as a nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or by itself. What about [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] as long names for [name_f]Posey[/name_f]?

I think [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are lovely together! I think [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] actually make a cuter set, but I also love the nn [name_f]Posey[/name_f].

I only have one suggested for [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s and it’s [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (I would say it Hel-enn-ah).

I was about to say [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but I read your thread and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]'s middle is [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! I second [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_u]Simone[/name_u] is lovely. I’d look for names that have remained in the top 1000 for all of this century, but still feel timeless and sweet.

I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]!

My first thought was [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (as boyandgirl suggested too!). It is just as classic/timeless/substantial/familiar as [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] but not currently popular. I know of sisters named [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Suzy[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] goes by [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] most of the time. [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_f]Suzy[/name_f] is cute!

I do think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] will have to clarify her name a good bit, not that it is too much of a problem.

I like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] but it is much more popular than [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] now. I think [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] sound great together!

A few others you might like…

[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]/[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]/[name_f]Elaina[/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are both beautiful names! Both would make a great sister name for [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] feels more gentle, quiet and ladylike, while [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is more spunky, lively and adventurous to me. They both have a classic yet modern feel, a name that sounds like it would have been as usable a hundred years ago as now. I love the nickname [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (and [name_f]Mila[/name_f]!) , though I prefer the [name_f]Milly[/name_f] spelling, for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emily[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is becoming more popular in its own right so I think people are getting more used to it as a name. I say it em-ee-lee-ah rather than uh-mee-lee-ah like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but some people pronounce them the same way- if you do I think it would be more confusing. [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] is a fun nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and I don’t think [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] are too much at all. It’s cute while they’re little, and when they’re older they can choose different nicknames if they prefer to, and when you’re older your name is rarely said with your sibling’s like that. [name_f]Posey[/name_f] is sweet too and definitely works.

Also, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] as a combo would be beautiful!

Other suggestions:
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (if you don’t mind popularity)
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]! It goes so well with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].

Regarding your concern, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is a well known spelling, especially lately, so even if she occasionally has to say “with an E” it’s a pretty easy specification. (When I’m spelling my own name I constantly have to say “it’s [name_u]Hillary[/name_u], with two Ls” and it’s never complicated my life at all.)

I like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u] or [name_f]Posie[/name_f] (although I’m biased as [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is my name!) in my experience with the name [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] is a bit to cutesy as a nn outside the house anyway.
I prefer [name_f]Emily[/name_f] to [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] for the reasons you stated

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a royal, classic name. It’s a literary name, referring to both [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are also the [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] sisters in Pride and Prejudice.

I’d absolutely stick with names that are royal and literary. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is the best from your list. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would be a beautiful name.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is better than [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is a [name_m]French[/name_m] name and I don’t like it in a sibset with a name that could be [name_m]French[/name_m] but isn’t. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] go together, not [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], though, works with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] only because both are classic names. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] isn’t a classic name - that would be [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. The same goes for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], the classic version is [name_f]Emily[/name_f].

My favourite names to go with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] are [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] would be a lovely middle name in the same category as [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is an exquisite name.

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (a bit close but I love it!)
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Helen[/name_f] or [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] aren’t too much at all. I think it is adorable. Perhaps [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Joanna[/name_f]? Other suggestions: [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]?

I like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].

Others:

[name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] (Eh-[name_u]VAN[/name_u]-thee)
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Imelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] goes great. I personally prefer nicknames [name_u]Josie[/name_u] or [name_u]Jo[/name_u] but the full name is gorgeous. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is also a good match, though more popular than [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Camille[/name_f] or [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] as well. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is pretty but I pronounce it the same as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I’ve been liking [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] a lot lately–it has the [name_f]Em[/name_f] beginning and is uncommon but vintage like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].
