Sister for Maeve Frances

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all ,
Got great advice last time around with my daughter so I am back again looking for more! My daughter is [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and I am looking for a girls name that will go with it – Classic, simple, Irish hopefully.

Right now I am liking [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Maura[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (my husband worries people will call her [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] but I want the nickname to be [name_f]Cat[/name_f]), [name_f]Tara[/name_f], [name_f]Deidre[/name_f]… And this one is kind of out there: daisy.

My husband hates [name_f]Maura[/name_f] but I adore it and have for years, like 20 years to be exact! I also love more traditional Irish names such as Graine and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] but people struggle with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] as it is! So I don’t think I can go more Gaelic

Any ideas? I’m just starting out but I want to have a name early on this time… My baby is over 1 and we still just call her “the baby.” That’s gonna be confusing pretty soon!

I like all your choices. Too bad your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Maura[/name_f], that’s a great choice. To go with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] I’d choose [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. Good luck!

I have always loved [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]! Here are some suggestions for her sister.

[name_f]Aisling[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Bevan[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Darina[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Finola[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_u]Keeva[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Kyna [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Meara[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_u]Tegan[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f] [name_f]Brigid[/name_f]

Let me just start by saying I like your list. The only of names I don’t like is [name_f]Tara[/name_f], as I still think of [name_f]Tara[/name_f] [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. [name_f]Maura[/name_f] is my favorite, but with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] you’d be pigeon holing yourself.

First name that comes to mind is [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], as I’m friends with twins [name_f]Deirdre[/name_f] & [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f].

Some other Irish names I like with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (beautiful name btw) - [name_f]Finola[/name_f]/[name_f]Finella[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f].

[name_f]Finola[/name_f] [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Finola[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Finella[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u] [name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u] [name_f]Manon[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

The first thing to pop into my mind was [name_f]Moira[/name_f], if your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Maura[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] are also lovely names, but I think that [name_f]Maura[/name_f] is the one that fits best from your list, which is why I’m suggesting [name_f]Moira[/name_f], which seems similar but closer in style to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. (I’m actually really into the idea of [name_f]Moira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]).

Wow !! Thank you all. I love a lot of these and I hadn’t considered most of them. I also didn’t realize the [name_f]Tara[/name_f] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] connection. I’m really surprised so many people like [name_f]Maura[/name_f] , my husband acted like it was nuts and said it made him think of “moron.” !?? I’m going to write these down and think about them all, thank you so much for all the awesome input!

I love [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] … But it’s my name! Lol. I feel weird naming her after me but I really do love it.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Keeva[/name_u] and [name_f]Meara[/name_f]. We actually considered [name_f]Meara[/name_f] the first time around… I forgot about it til now!

I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f]… I also love your name picks… [name_u]Linden[/name_u] is such a great name

Maybe if I just keep calling her [name_f]Maura[/name_f] he will get used to it. Ahah. I like really [name_f]Moira[/name_f] too so I’m going to suggest that to him! The fact that everyone does like the name [name_f]Maura[/name_f] makes me feel like maybe he is really wrong about it! He had me thinking I was crazy

I love the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I would go with
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

Thanks! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] does sound so elegant… And [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] would be cute for a little girl esp since she will prob have red hair like most of us!

You’re not crazy, I don’t see it. [name_f]Maura[/name_f] is pretty!

I think [name_f]Maura[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. I would suggest [name_f]Maude[/name_f], but that really has the same problem. I think you can go a little more exotic than [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f], which to me are English rather than Irish. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is so gorgeous, I think a little [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would feel a bit plain in comparison (that is not to say you need to go with [name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] or something… just something slightly less traditional).

Some thoughts:
[name_f]Orla[/name_f] - I think goes well with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and very phonetically spelt (if you don’t want to use [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f])
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Riona[/name_f]
[name_f]Tara[/name_f]
[name_u]Clare[/name_u] (without the I it is the Irish name)
[name_f]Neve[/name_f] (phonetic spelling of [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], as [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is the phonetic spelling of [name_f]Meabh[/name_f])

Thank you for your thoughts! I had wondered if she would feel plain/less special with a more staid or serious name such as [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] … Also had wondered if two "m"s might be confusing, or too much like a talk show - [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f]! Haha. I love [name_f]Riona[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]…I also really like niamh, But I never considered spelling it phonetically so I dismissed outright. I wonder if that is what neve [name_u]Campbell[/name_u]'s parents did?

You’ve given me a lot to consider! Thank you

I love [name_f]Neve[/name_f] but think it might be too similar sounding to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Moira[/name_f] as well and although its also an M name, it sounds completely different than [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is actually on our short list. [name_f]Do[/name_f] people have a hard time with your daughter’s name, pronoucing it or anything?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Ailish[/name_f]? It’s one my faves and I think it’s spunky enough for [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. [name_f]Ailish[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] sounds lovely.

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is such a great name! I really like [name_f]Maura[/name_f] (bummer that hubby doesn’t like it!). [name_f]Moira[/name_f] is also a great suggestion. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is lovely, but seems a little lacking next to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. I know a lot of young [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]'s and none of them are called [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], but some often go by [name_f]Cat[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a nice match with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]!

WoW you are right about [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and neve! Didn’t think of that. It depends on the person honestly when it comes to maeve … I find some people are very confused , like my husbands friend who thinks her name is mauve?? lol. But most people get it, although I find I must stress the [name_f]Ave[/name_f] sound or people think it’s [name_f]May[/name_f]. Overall I think it’s relatively simple to understand but there are those who have never heard the name and it blows their mind. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ oh well. I am really happy with our choice and I think as it gets more popular it will be less bizarre to those outlying people

I really do like ailish! I’ll run it. By. My husband
