Our daughters’ names are [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f]. We loved these names because they were strong and solid, but not in the top 100. We also liked that they were a little mid-century. If I had to to do again, I would have saved [name_f]Susan[/name_f] as a first name and called her [name_f]Susie[/name_f] or [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]. I am looking for ideas for another girl name that will fit the first two!
Some ideas are…
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Francine[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Fay[/name_f]
I really love the name [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] and think it would be perfect with your sister set. I think [name_f]Anne[/name_f] also works very nicely. I love mid-century names too. A few other ideas:
Would you consider [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] even though you have used [name_f]Susan[/name_f]? I love [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] with your girls. And I like the suggestions of [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Nell[/name_f] (though I prefer [name_f]Helena[/name_f]), [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Teresa[/name_f]/[name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f].
I do love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - [name_f]Bee[/name_f] or [name_f]Betty[/name_f] for short. I like [name_f]Anne[/name_f]/[name_f]Ann[/name_f] best as a retro middle. [name_f]Fay[/name_f] could do either first or middle but up front would need a very long middle to balance it out.
Other suggestions:
I would consider [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], as in Hepburn - also one of the least popular spellings. [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] is rather perfect. And I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] or [name_u]Kay[/name_u] for short.
[name_f]Ann[/name_f] has just dropped out of the Top 1000 for the first time.
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is #457 and I really like it. [name_u]Rory[/name_u] or [name_u]Romy[/name_u] are options for nicknames. Feels nature-y, but not at all hippie. Doesn’t clash with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] could also work, and isn’t in the Top 1000. But [name_f]Rose[/name_f] itself is also outside the Top 100 and inarguably classic.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I really like [name_f]Fay[/name_f]!! It totally gives off that mid-century vibe like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. Or maybe [name_f]Fay[/name_f] could be used as a nickname for [name_f]Francine[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f]? Either way, [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and [name_f]Fay[/name_f] sounds very nice
Firstly, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my guilty pleasure name. It’s simple and so elegant. Secondly, I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Elle[/name_f] would be perfect with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], & [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. And the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]? It’s all so cute!
Also maybe:
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names! My favorites from your list and with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] are: [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. While I like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], it’s a little too similar to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] for me. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f], [name_f]Francine[/name_f], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], and [name_f]Fay[/name_f] are nice, but again, not in the same classic vein as [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
Some other possibilities:
[name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and
I just really want to second the suggestion of [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]! Such a gentle name, but also with lots of strength and plenty of room for some retro sassiness, just like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] are also brilliant options. What would you say to [name_f]Irene[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] or [name_u]Marion[/name_u]?
From your list, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] seem like the best matches to the timelessness of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is my first pick of the three, because the other two seem a little too matchy to one of her sisters, leaving one on her own ([name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] leave [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] out; [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] leave [name_f]Jane[/name_f] out). [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] fit while each having their own distinct sound and style.
The first name that sprang to mind for me was [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. I love a lot of the other suggestions, especially [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. Congratulations!
My first thought was [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. After reading your post, however, I like the pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]. And I really like [name_f]Frances[/name_f].
