We’re expecting our second girl in early [name_u]June[/name_u], and are incredibly torn between [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I go back and forth almost daily on which one I like more. Big sister is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]. Is [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] too popular or in theme? Is [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] too much? Help, please.
I like both [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], but with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]…I think I slightly prefer [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. They make a darling sister set.
I absolutely love both names! You can’t go wrong with either and I can’t pick but I’ll mention some minor considerations
Nicknames: For [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] could be [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] (which is pretty popular might be con based on what you said above), [name_u]Lou[/name_u], or Elo. For [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] could be [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], or [name_f]Lia[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you don’t like nicknames kids could start calling her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. But, I went to school w an [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and she was always called [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] just mentioning all possible outcomes. For me nicknames with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] wins.
Syllables: [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] & [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] have same pair of syllables while [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is a bit longer…
Pop Culture: [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] the movie and the book and the younger sister would have the book about [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] going to the Plaza which could be cute. Cannot think of anything other than [name_f]Ann[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables reference to name [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
All in all above is super nit picky and likely to have no affect. I see how this decision is hard. I would next consider what combinations with middle names you like best and then it may be clear to you. You could use both names with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]! Or wait until the baby is born when you meet her the choice might become obvious! Best of luck
My vote is with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]! I have a love-hate relationship with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. Although I love the name as a whole, I can’t stand the [name_m]Cord[/name_m] begining. It reminds me of a computer cord or what-not.
My favorite is [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] sound beautiful together. Your oldest daughter has a stunning name.
I think [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is a much better match for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] than [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is. I don’t think [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is too trendy, and I don’t think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is too much, but it does feel like a lot of name next to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
I think [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is gorgeous with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_u]Lou[/name_u] (my preferred nickname for [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]) are so sweet together! I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] are lovely together!
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] are beautiful together. I like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] but [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] are a little rhymey.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there,
I personally love the name [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], and it’s my daughters’ second name ([name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]). Some alternatives could be:
[name_f]Adelia[/name_f] (uh - deel - lee - a) OR (ay-dee-lah)
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] (ell - o - dee)
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
Definitely [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]! Goes lovely with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
I love both but [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is a winner with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]!
I think I’m in the minority, but I slightly prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. They are both lovely but [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] are so cute!
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] are adorable together I do like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] but not so much with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (maybe too similar of sounds in them).
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is such a pretty name.
Goes well with [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f].
Good luck!
