I am 8 weeks away from due date and we still don’t have any front runners for our girl’s name.
Our son is [name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Claudio[/name_m] (last name starts with H and is quite long). [name_f]My[/name_f] DH is Polish/Iranian and I am Italian/Ukranian. We wanted a name that was somewhat ‘International’ but we aren’t stuck with that idea.
[name_f]My[/name_f] DH loves the name [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] - I like it too but I am a teacher and I have taught MANY Sophia/Sofia’s - again, nothing wrong with name, just very popular where we are. He seems to like names that are ‘girly and soft’
Names we have floated:
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - its feminine and beautiful but is it too plain?
[name_u]Abby[/name_u] (Abigail) - We love [name_u]Abby[/name_u], not so much [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Arianna[/name_f] - I love this name but he doesn’t like the nickname ‘Ari’
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] - I worry that it’s too ‘cute’, but I do think it’s lovely
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] - I love this name but [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] sound a bit too similar with both starting with ‘Ma’ sound - thoughts?
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] - we are both ‘meh’ on this.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] or [name_f]Simona[/name_f] spring to mind!
[name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Saskia[/name_f]? Both feel like wonderful uncommon but still international alternatives to [name_f]Sofia[/name_f].
Otherwise my favourite from your list is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (perhaps paired with a more eye-catching middle, like [name_m]Claudio[/name_m], to balance out any “plainness”) and [name_f]Arianna[/name_f], which you could nickname Anna/Anya/Annie, or even [name_u]Abby[/name_u] with a B middle: [name_f]Arianna[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] “Abby”, for example.
Anna and Sofia are the best in this list. To be honest I feel like internationally Anna is less common for a girl. And you have nickname choices like Anya, Annie, Anouk.
Sadie is cute too. Arianna too is nice.
Ditto suggestion Irina Neve, it is awesome.
What about Clara, Frida, Luisa, Nora, Flora, Tamara, Emilia, Diana, Cordelia?
For you I like [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]! [name_u]Or[/name_u] even [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f] to give a more international flair. With [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_u]Max[/name_u] & [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] are similar, but I don’t think in a confusing way. They don’t sound the same when you shout them across the house.
I also really like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. Maybe she could be a [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] “Sadie” to avoid the cutesy-ness when she’s older.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] - cute with [name_u]Max[/name_u] without sounding similar. Very international; very on trend
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - less common substitute for [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]?
[name_u]Cleo[/name_u] - trendier than [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], had to throw it out there. Goes great with [name_u]Max[/name_u].
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] - Loo-see-ah, “Lucy”, international, cool, timeless
[name_f]Alessia[/name_f] - Very Italian/international, girly/soft but also a great name to age with.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - feminine/soft, modern, could be a Ellie/Ella/Didi.
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] - [name_u]Max[/name_u] & [name_f]Maya[/name_f] are cool together, alternative to [name_f]Layla[/name_f].
sadie and max is such a cute sibset! i also do not think that sadie is too “cutesy”.
sadie + max reminds me of sadie sink (who also played max from stranger things) which isn’t a bad association.
Elodie comes to mind, I also think you might like Daphne and/or Clara!
from your list I think Sadie is gorgeous with Max, not at all too cutesy ! Plus I think if you both like Abby you could go with that as a first name, I’ve met many girls named just Abby!
[name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_m]Claudio[/name_m] is dashing!
Here are my thoughts for a little sister:
Sofia-It’s beautiful and smart and elegant, but so so over done. I much prefer [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] for some reason; looks sleeker.
Anna-It’s lovely, and I guess it is kind of plain. But that’s not always a bad thing. It’s just classic.
[name_u]Abby[/name_u] (Abigail)-Super cute and charming and great with [name_u]Max[/name_u]. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is supposedly high on the SSA charts, but I rarely run across them in real life. If you don’t like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and just [name_u]Abby[/name_u], how about [name_u]Aberdeen[/name_u]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe a bit of a stretch but I feel like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Annabella[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] nn [name_u]Abby[/name_u] totally work.
Arianna-I feel like spelling and pronunciation with this name could be a headache. And it just feels a bit trendy. If you dh strongly dislike [name_u]Ari[/name_u], good to stay way from this. It may be hard to avoid.
Sadie-I like it. I don’t feel like it’s too nick-name-y on its own. I used to, but then I watched 11.22.63 mini series and the main character was an adult named [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] who wore the name beautifully.
Madelyn-I do feel like it’s a bit close to [name_u]Max[/name_u], but if this is the one, I don’t think the closeness is too close, you know?
Layla-Yeah, I’m meh on it too. Kind of trendy & over done.
When I worked at a private school, there were so many Sofias/Sofies that is was rough. 4 girls with the same name was confusing.
My name is Anna, and though I DON’T hate it, I do find it boring and am a bit disappointed in it. Anna is meh but Arianna is lovely. If he doesn’t like the nickname Ari don’t use it, Aria is just one more letter and takes Ari from cute but boyish and transforms it into a feminine, fantasy-sounding nickname.
Names like Anna but more fancy:
Annabell/Annabelle/Annabella
Hannah
Annaliese/Annalise
Names like Arianna:
Aurelia
Arabella
Aurora
I love Madelyn. I feel like the Ma start matches nicely with Max but
I love all these contenders as a little sister to [name_u]Max[/name_u] ! I adore [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Arianna[/name_f] could be shortened to [name_f]Anna[/name_f] . [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_u]Max[/name_u] sound so effortless and timeless and chic together. I also feel they are international !
Of your list, I think my favorite is [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s too plain. It’s timeless and well-loved for a reason! And it’s probably the most “international” on your list.
