While we don’t have kids yet, we are getting close to TTC (within the next year) and I’m revisiting my top names list.
Girl names tend to be harder for us to agree on, and some of the ones I’ve loved for a while may be waning on me. I need some fresh inspo!
Our top boy name that we both love is [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]. I love it even more today than I did when I first put it on the list! Other boy names we like:
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] (husband loves, I like)
[name_m]Roman[/name_m] (despite growing popularity)
[name_u]Julian[/name_u] (like this for a girl, too)
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] (again, popular, but we like it)
Girls’ names that we liked before but I’m not sold on now:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] — this was our top name for a long time, but now it doesn’t feel quite as special. Maybe it’s because I know of a couple of dog Rubys It would be an honor name for my late FIL (birthday in July).
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] — husband recently said he didn’t like this as much anymore because it felt like it was trying too hard (???). Our last name ends in -o so I’ve been reluctant for first names with this sound (even though I really like [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] & [name_u]Harlow[/name_u] & Shiloh). But [name_f]Margot[/name_f] seemed to fit until it didn’t.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] — my longtime favorite. The issue here though is that our last name is also a place name so it may feel a little weird? I love this name though. I honestly don’t remember how husband feels about it!
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u] — my all time favorite girls name ever. I’ve loved her as long as [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and she has the cool girl factor I crave. But, husband hates it. Has hated it forever. So, it doesn’t seem like a likely contender. To be fair, I hate his top boy pick (Kim) even though it honors his dad. I feel like we’re even in this one.
So, now I need help! We like a slightly more vintage/cool kid vibe and prefer names that could have good nicknames easily derived from them (like [name_u]Max[/name_u] for Maxwell).
