Sister for Nathan Daniel??

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there,

Our little girl is arriving any day and we and having such a difficult time deciding on a name for her. [name_f]My[/name_f] 2 year old son is [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] “[name_m]Nate[/name_m]” [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and that came to us very easily.

As my son has only ever been called [name_m]Nate[/name_m], we are looking for a simple, and fairly mainstream name for this gal. Some of our rules are that we don’t want her to ever have to explain how to pronounce her name or to have to spell it, but would also like her to avoid being one of five others with that name in her class.

Our top runners right now are [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Other than [name_f]Emily[/name_f] we are having a tough time picturing a grown up with these names and I think that’s our biggest hesitation. We live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] so as far as we know none of these name are too incredibly popular just yet.

Opinions on [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] as a sister to [name_m]Nate[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] please ? Any alternatives?

Any more modern names that use [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname and and aren’t the usual [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (absolute no no for my husband), [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]??

Thanks!

I really like [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]; they work really well and I can definitely see them on an adult. I wouldn’t pair [name_f]Ella[/name_f] with [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] though. Apart from [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] having a different vibe from [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] does kind of sound like a toddler trying to pronounce ‘[name_f]Emily[/name_f]’, sorry. For combinations, I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] are nice.

For other ‘[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]’ names, how about: [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] with [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]! I also think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would sound great.

Thanks! The main reason we were sticking to [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] for the middle is because its my middle name as well as my mom’s so with lack of a better alternative I wanted to pass it along. I agree that it’s a bit of mouth full. I do really like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Any other nameberry’s with suggestions??? Our last name is 3 syllables and starts with an A.

Thanks!

[name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f], even [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (though she’s more of a riser, not a top seed) are fairly popular, definitely in the US, and I would assume also in [name_f]Canada[/name_f].

As for the adult image, all of these work. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] feels like a nickname, so if you want to use it, I’d use [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or some alternate form. [name_f]Elle[/name_f] feels a little more streamlined and chic to me, also more different, and offers up the potential [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] nickname. Another more vibrant choice to get [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] from would be [name_f]Elena[/name_f], or the perky [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], if you want a full classic name.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f], along with [name_f]Emily[/name_f], are longstanding classics used for centuries (actually, so is [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and really [name_f]Lily[/name_f], too). A grown woman with those names would not be odd at all! [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a classic vintage revival at the moment, so whereas she’s common on under-5’s now, just a decade ago we would’ve seen her more on a grandmother. [name_f]Claire[/name_f], in contrast, is a more subtle and underused classic name.

I would suggest to you [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] as alternatives to [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], if they aren’t working for you. For [name_f]Emily[/name_f], you could try [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Actually, though, my favorite name on your list with [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]/[name_m]Nate[/name_m] is [name_f]Claire[/name_f]! Then, perhaps [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

As for [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u], to be honest I find it to be off flow-wise. It has too much L! But, I see your rationale for [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]. I would suggest, again, [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u], and she could be called [name_u]Clare[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] is called [name_m]Nate[/name_m]. Not hard to spell or say! You may also like [name_f]Cara[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].

I like [name_m]Nate[/name_m] and [name_f]Cara[/name_f]! [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_f]Cara[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u].

I work with a woman whose son’s name is [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]!!! She also has a daughter and her name is [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] (not sure her middle).
She could go by [name_u]Ali[/name_u], I think [name_m]Nate[/name_m] and [name_u]Ali[/name_u] sound really good together!
Might be too matchy for you but I always thought it was cute!
I also live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and know many little girls named [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. So if you want to avoid her having to use her last initial all the time I would steer clear of those 4 for sure!
Good luck

As soon as I read the title I thought of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. She could go by [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. I’m not that fond of [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] together but I think [name_m]Nate[/name_m] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] do sound cute together.

I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] as well. If popularity concerns you, don’t choose [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. They are all incredibly popular…I know several of each.

That being said, I really like your list. All of your choices are popular, but for good reason - they are all lovely choices any girl would like having for a name.

In terms of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], maybe you’d like [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. It’s short and sweet like the other names on your list - classic, but not over used. I think [name_m]Nate[/name_m] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sound like the perfect pair.

I think [name_f]Claire[/name_f] goes really well with [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]. I’m a [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and I’ve always loved my name - it’s classic and simple and feminine. Plus it’s easy to spell and pronounce.

I am a big fan of [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as a middle name. I have an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] ([name_f]Elianna[/name_f]), and she adores her name!! She is 8 and told me that when she gets a job interview she will tell them her name is [name_f]Elle[/name_f] to sound more grown up. Lol. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] could go by [name_f]Elle[/name_f] when older as well!! [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] flows easier than [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]. But if you want to stick with [name_u]Leigh[/name_u], it is very pretty together!!

I’m not sure many of the names you’ve listed sound very good with [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] as a middle name.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about…
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]

Congratulations!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite from your selection are [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] all of which I can picture on an adult. I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] works with [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] ([name_m]Nate[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]) but I do hear [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] which could potentially be confusing to the ears.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] is really pretty.

[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]?

[name_f]Leilah[/name_f] or [name_f]Leila[/name_f] is a nice name to that combines both [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_u]Leigh[/name_u].
