We are expecting our first little girl in less than two months. My husband and I really struggle with names, and for that reason we decided to find out the gender of this baby for the first time. The theory being half as many names to pick. It’s a baby girl. We’ve known this for over three months now and are still struggling to come up with a name we like.

Things to consider

  • We have a single syllable last name
  • We have two middle names according to family tradition
  • Meanings are really important to us
  • DH wants something easy to spell & pronounce.

The names we like
[name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] - nn [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]. Probably the favourite right now. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would have been lovely too but doesn’t work as well with the single syllable last name [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
? We live in Australia. I know a lot of the issues others have with the name is the connotation to Graceland. I’ve never heard of it being a problem, I haven’t really perceived [name_m]Elvis[/name_m] to be as big a deal here. Is there anyone else from Australia who can give their two cents about this?

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - this is the name we would have called our second son had he been a girl, but I’m not sure that having an [name_u]Elisha[/name_u] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] as siblings closest in age and next to each other in names would work very well. Opinions?

[name_f]Arielle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ariella[/name_f] - Opinions? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think they are still too Disney related?
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]

[name_f]Virtue[/name_f] names - [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] etc.

So I’m looking for

  • opinions on the names & questions suggested
  • other potential names
  • name combination suggestions

I know it’s a huge post, I’m just starting to feel very overwhelmed and out of my depth!

I wouldn’t be so concerned with the Graceland connotation, but I don’t think [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] really fits with your boys’ names. They are more serious old testament style names, while [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] seems very contemporary, made-up and cutesy. I do like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] on its own, just not with the -[name_u]Lyn[/name_u].
Out of the names you listed I think [name_f]Esther[/name_f] or maybe [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] would work best. I think [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_m]Eli[/name_m] are fine – they start with the same letter but otherwise they aren’t very similar. I don’t care for [name_u]Tully[/name_u] as a first name but it could work in the middle.
