Have you thought about [name]Elsa[/name]?
I voted for [name]Elka[/name]. I have a cousin named [name]Elke[/name], I’ve always thought it was a neat name, but it’s probably easier for her to carry since she lives in Germany… I like it, and I prefer it to [name]Mabel[/name].
[name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] would be lovely for siblings. Sorry but [name]Elka[/name] sounds harsh to my ears and doesn’t have that “vintage charm” that [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] have in spades!
anyone else? all you have to do is vote - help a mama out.
It is a difficult one. I voted for [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] and then [name]Oskar[/name] and [name]Elka[/name] came into the picture. If you go with [name]Elke[/name] spell like this for authenticity but I guess you will have to correct everyone and say it is pronounced as [name]Elle[/name] Kah, might be easier to go with [name]Mabel[/name].
rollo
I keep going back and forth on the spelling, obviously [name]Elka[/name] is the “americanized” version of the name, but I do know an older Jewish woman who’s name is spelled [name]Elka[/name], so somehow it makes that particular spelling a bit more valid for me…
So upon further research (online of course) it appears that the spelling Elke is German and Elka is Polish and Hebrew, pronounced the same though. Does this sound right? I don’t have a lot of insight on the name, but would love to hear if anyone else does. I really don’t like “made up” spellings. Thanks
I like [name]Elka[/name] better than [name]Mabel[/name], but I think [name]Mabel[/name] sounds better with [name]Oscar[/name], so that’s my vote.
I think that [name]Oscar[/name] & [name]Mabel[/name] go together really well…but [name]Elka[/name] is more unexpected & sophisticated & really gorgeous. So I guess it comes down to what is more important to you…a really great sibling pairing or the prettier name (at least prettier imo!)
[name]Elka[/name] for me! [name]Oskar[/name] and [name]Elka[/name] are quite [name]German[/name] together–I love it! I love the suggestion of [name]Elsa[/name], too.
Sorry, [name]Mabel[/name]'s not my thing at all. I think [name]Elka[/name] [name]Jane[/name] or [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Jane[/name] work really well, though.
shameless bump. I just need a few more votes- thanks berries!
Many of the berries are asleep now I think except for the Aussies, Kiwis and not sure about the Brits, check out the world time zones.
