[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! [name_f]My[/name_f] son is [name_m]Owen[/name_m] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] and I am having a girl in a few weeks. I would really like her to be named after me in some way. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] and I am named after my great grandma [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband prefers not to go with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] due to a family conflict on his side with a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], so I interested in substituting the name with [name_f]Greta[/name_f].
Right now we have:
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
Which one do you think sounds better? Open to additional combinations!
I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] with your son’s name, and it has such a lovely connection to your name as well. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is also sometimes used a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], so it adds another sweet connection.
I’ll also suggest [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] variants though you’ve likely already considered them.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is lovely and works really nicely as a sister to [name_m]Owen[/name_m] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m].
I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] too, if you like the idea of using your own name in the middle.
Would [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] be an option? I feel that it’s a nice balance to [name_m]Owen[/name_m] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m].
You could also consider using [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (which is what [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] means) or a different version of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] like [name_f]Mairead[/name_f] or [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], or, for a slight twist on [name_f]Greta[/name_f] - [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] or [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] (I like all 3 of these equally).
I’ll also suggest [name_m]Omega[/name_m] (which contains Meg) or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], which feels like a re-imagining of [name_f]Meghan[/name_f].
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] would be lovely!
I’m a sucker for [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] but I honestly love and am leaning more towards [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]! I think because I never would’ve thought of [name_f]Greta[/name_f] as an honour name for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] that it seems more rare to me! I also love the combo [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] too even though it’s not one of your combos
Other options for honouring yourself and your great grandma
I don’t think my suggestions are really even needed because [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] are beautiful combos. Name wise I feel [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is more youthful than [name_f]Greta[/name_f], I can picture an [name_m]Owen[/name_m] and [name_f]Cece[/name_f] (if she happens to have the nickname) as siblings more than [name_m]Owen[/name_m] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. But like I said early I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and I love how it honours you in a rare, lesser heard way without being obvious!
Sorry my advice maybe not be the most helpful but if you’re still stuck wait until you see the baby and maybe something will give you more of a spark then
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is a great, powerful name similar in vibe to [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] - I reckon use that as the middle with a diminutive or short form of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (there are many) or [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as the first name:
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] would be another idea to combine your grandmother’s name with yours, sound-wise. I like both [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] very much, with a slight preference for the latter.
I like Greta with Owen (but solid, outdoorsy and yet also storybook sweet names) but don’t think you need Mae for a middle - Greta already honours Margaret and Meghan. I also think a longer name like Dominic would be better.
Eg Greta Rosalie or Greta Josephine
Or if you go for Cecilia (which is a name I would normally prefer as less harsh sounding - so if it were me I’d pick it), I would go for a new version of Margaret/Meghan (unless you really do just want to use your name) to continue the trend.
Eg Cecilia Margot, Cecilia Marguerite, Cecilia Daisy, Cecilia Pearl (I think a short middle works with Cecilia - as an inversion of Owen Dominic - better than with Greta). Owen Dominic & Cecilia Pearl would be lovely.
I also like the suggestions above of Mabel or Marianne - for a more vintage sweet set with Owen. Eg Mabel Cecilia “Maisie” or Marianne Cecily “Marnie”.
Other names I like with Owen Dominic and to honour Margaret:
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] “alternative” is [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] (or [name_f]Margot[/name_f] if you want a shorter form).
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] sounds lovely! I assume you’re already familiar with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] also being a NN for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_m]Owen[/name_m] & [name_f]Greta[/name_f] just sound adorable. I’m also going to suggest [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], though you’ve most likely already considered these! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
I love the idea of [name_f]Greta[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] & [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_m]Owen[/name_m] & [name_f]Greta[/name_f] are beautiful for siblings. I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] too, but [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is a little more unique & I love the vintage glamorous yet simple vibe. I do really love the idea of [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] even more. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is cute, but since you’re already honoring with [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is a more interesting middle name than [name_f]Mae[/name_f].
