Sister for Rosemary + Juniper

We currently have two girls: [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] ([name_f]Junie[/name_f]) and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosie[/name_f]).

I’m so stuck on girls names for a potential third child. I thought for sure we were set on either [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. I really cannot get over the strong associations with southern United States as I have no emotional connection to the south.

We have also considered [name_f]Althea[/name_f] nn [name_u]Allie[/name_u], as we loved the flower connections (with [name_f]Alethea[/name_f]), but it just doesn’t feel like the “one”.

I absolutely love the name [name_f]Fern[/name_f] and I would love that as a potential middle name.

Juniper, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] would be fantastic together! If it helps, the only [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] I know if from [name_u]California[/name_u]. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is the first name that comes to mind and I love it with your other girls!

Magnolia [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is definitely my favorite! But [name_f]Althea[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] would also be lovely with your sibset.

Juniper, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], & ______:

Tabitha [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Delta[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Calista[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]/Odette [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Siena[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]

Although I love [name_f]Althea[/name_f] nn [name_u]Allie[/name_u], I agree it isn’t quite the right name to fit into your sibset.

On the other hand, [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] seems like a natural fit.

Other names that may fit would be:

  • Aspen nn [name_u]Penny[/name_u]
  • Azalea nn [name_u]Zaley[/name_u] or [name_f]Zalie[/name_f]
  • Camellia nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Cammy[/name_f] or [name_f]Cammie[/name_f]
  • Delphine nn [name_f]Delly[/name_f]

  • Oriole nn [name_u]Ori[/name_u]

  • Zinnia nn Zinny

A couple of nickname-proof names:

  • Pansy
  • Sylvie
  • Tansy
  • Uli

A couple of names with less obvious nicknames

  • Madelief nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] could work as [name_f]Madelief[/name_f] is [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
  • Shoshana nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f] could work as [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f] is Hebrew for [name_f]Lily[/name_f]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] seems completely perfect w/Juniper & [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. I don’t know that it has that strong connections to the south, but if that bothers you there are other nice names out there. [name_f]Althea[/name_f] & [name_f]Fern[/name_f] are both super sweet & vintage. The only downside of [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is the lack of nns. And for [name_f]Althea[/name_f] I personally like [name_f]Thea[/name_f], but [name_u]Allie[/name_u] is pretty cute w/Junie & [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].

A few other fn ideas that you may like-

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]-not sure what nn I like here. I’ve heard [name_f]Zelie[/name_f] said like ‘zay-lee’. I guess it’s kind of cute.

And a few [name_f]Fern[/name_f] mn suggestions-

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]

[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is a great name, but I understand not wanting to have such a strong connection to the [name_u]South[/name_u]. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is a great middle name, it’s always been one of my favorites as well . When I read your names a few names popped into my head that would go great with them. These are some:
Alyssum (you could still use the nickname [name_u]Allie[/name_u] here. I like this name because of the flower Sweet Alyssum)
[name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u]. I knew a girl with this name and she rocked it)
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] (I love this name and it reminds me of an evergreen tree)
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] (nn could be [name_u]Laurie[/name_u])
[name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] (love this one as well)
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] (nn Zinnie would be super cute)
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

How about:

Juniper, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and Matilda [name_f]Fern[/name_f]

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and Theodora [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and Isobel [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and Zelda [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and Bronte [name_f]Fern[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are my favourites with your daughters’ names.

I like both [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Althea[/name_f] (but not nickname [name_u]Allie[/name_u] seems very ‘90’s) this may have already been suggested but I like [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and Loralai.

I love [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] & [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Calliope[/name_f].

Love the suggested:

I love the suggestion of [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] ! I don’t think I have anything that others haven’t mentioned but I will try.

I absolutely love your daughters’ names! [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] does seem kind of perfect with them–I love that all three girls would have long, lovely, nature-related names with sweet, spunky nicknames. I don’t think of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] as being overly tied to the [name_u]South[/name_u]; I do see the connection, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to meet a [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] from another region. And especially with her sisters’ names, I think the nature connection would feel much more prominent than any regional connection. That said, I understand if you can’t get past the association; that happens to me sometimes with names! I do like [name_f]Althea[/name_f], but I can see how it might not feel quite right with your older girls’ names. I’d like to second [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] from the previous suggestions–I might love it even a little more than [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. I think it pairs perfectly with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], and [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] would be such a sweet nickname alongside [name_f]Junie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. I also really like [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], which was previously suggested; [name_f]Callie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], or [name_f]Mila[/name_f] could work as a nickname. Good luck!

I’m sad that you’re not feeling [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]”, because I think it would suit your sibset perfectly!! I like both [name_f]Althea[/name_f] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f], as well - lovely!

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought for an alternative was [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] (nn Zali?). I also think [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] “[name_u]Penny[/name_u]” would be cute with your other girls.

Zinnia nn “Zinnie”
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] nn “[name_f]Cece[/name_f]”
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Nola[/name_f], [name_f]Nolie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] nn “[name_f]Vera[/name_f]”

Magnolia doesn’t seem especially southern to me. It’s very pretty. Some repeats but I like:

Briar nn [name_f]Bree[/name_f]?
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] nn Saffy
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Lillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] with nn Azie
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] with nn [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Elena[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Tabbie[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]

EDIT: Sorry, in my late night thoughts, I came up with a few others!

Cassidy or Cassandra with nn Cassie
Meadow with nn Maddie
Savannah with nn Annie
Annette with nn Nettie or Annie
Calliope with nn Callie

Camille, [name_f]Anise[/name_f], [name_f]Anais[/name_f], [name_f]Ginger[/name_f]

Juniper, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], and…

Hmmm, what if you took a slight twist and used a location or element to tie the nature them together? This could open up a lot of sentimental possibilities!

Brisa NN [name_f]Bri[/name_f] - [name_f]Brisa[/name_f] means “breeze” in Spanish and is a beautiful way to conjure the refreshing wind on a mountaintop or sandy beach. I don’t care for [name_f]Brisa[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f], however.

Waverly - “grove of quaking Aspens” is seriously the most perfect name meaning.

Indra - “possessing drops of rain”, Wouldn’t the NN [name_u]Indy[/name_u] be so cuuuute?! If you have a sentimental association to rain, this could be a cool nature themed connection.
