Hello,
We are expecting our third child. One of my favorite things about having children is naming them, however, I’m not having so much fun naming this baby. We are still stuck with the perfect name. Like with our two previous pregnancies, we’ve chosen not to reveal the gender of our baby.
We already have a daughter [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], who will turn 6 in [name_u]November[/name_u], and a son [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], who has just turned 3. All middle names honor family members. Both [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are the names of my husband’s late grandparents. [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], on the other hand, honors my grandparents (my grandmother’s name is [name_f]Emma[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Em[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmie[/name_f] and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] is the name of the city where my grandfather grew up. I am aware of the fact that many people don’t like the name [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] on a girl, but it fits our daughter as she’s a little independent and courageous girl. We sometimes call her [name_f]Em[/name_f] or EmRose for short, however, whenever she’s asked about her name she proudly says: [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. What is more, my husband and I love literature ( we even met in a library when we were teenagers) so [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] [name_m]Waldo[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] are in a way our children’s namesakes.
Anyway, if it’s a boy we are going to call him either [name_u]Barrett[/name_u] (after yet another poet, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Barrett[/name_u] Browning) or [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] (after [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Beckett[/name_m]. I love Waiting for Godot) with possible middle names [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (honor names for our fathers).
We are struggling with the perfect names for a girl. My husband and I both have unisex names and we would like to stick to one for our second daughter. To balance out the “boyish” quality of the name and to match her sister’s names I want to go with something ultra feminine and sweet for the middle name. We also like outdoorsy/nature names. Possible middle names for a girl:
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]/[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
But nothing has been decided yet, so we are open to suggestions. The problem is nothing sounds right to me… Here’s our current list of first names:
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_u]Dakota[/name_u]
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_u]Marlow[/name_u]
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]
[name_u]Reagan[/name_u]
[name_u]Saylor[/name_u]
We also like Sawyer and Peyton but our last name is Scott and there’s OTH tv series with Peyton and Sawyer Scott, so I don’t think we will use them.
So there you have it. One big mess! Could you give us some feedback or suggestions?
