[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I was wondering what combos you liked. Ideally we would have a long girl name with a one syllable nickname but that might not be possible. [name_f]My[/name_f] 5 year old is insisting her name is [name_f]Marsali[/name_f]. We have a baby girl in heaven named [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
I don’t have a nickname for [name_f]Marsali[/name_f] besides mars and I don’t love that.
For [name_f]Marsali[/name_f], do you like [name_u]Sal[/name_u] at all?
You have a great list of options! I especially like [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_f]Immy[/name_f] Some more ideas ~
[name_u]Florence[/name_u] nn [name_f]Flo[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] nn [name_u]Georgie[/name_u], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_m]Gee[/name_m]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] or [name_u]Pip[/name_u]
[name_f]Theresa[/name_f] or [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Elinor[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] nn [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] or Vee
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] nn Fliss, [name_f]Flick[/name_f] or [name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] nn [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Clem[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_u]Pen[/name_u] or [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dot[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Meg[/name_f] or [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] nn [name_u]Winn[/name_u] or [name_m]Fred[/name_m]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] nn Daph or Daff
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] . [name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f]
For middles, I really like [name_f]Faith[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f], though [name_f]Honey[/name_f] could be a more unexpected / kooky choice as a fun counterpoint to the classic firsts. I’m not a fan of the name [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as it stands, but if it’s a tribute to [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] then that’s a special meaning.
Seconding [name_u]Sal[/name_u], or [name_f]Sally[/name_f] / [name_m]Solly[/name_m] for [name_f]Marsali[/name_f].
Could also use [name_m]Al[/name_m] or [name_f]Ally[/name_f] / [name_u]Ali[/name_u].
[name_u]Or[/name_u] Sail. NB says the name can also be spelled [name_f]Marsaili[/name_f].
[name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_u]Ara[/name_u] (AH-ruh) / [name_u]Ari[/name_u] (AH-ree or AIR-ee).
Could reverse a few letters and arrive at Lis (pronounced like lease or the [name_u]French[/name_u] “lee”) or Liss.
Still reversing letters, I see [name_u]Sam[/name_u]. But I see you already have a [name_u]Sam[/name_u].
[name_u]Mal[/name_u], like the beginning of [name_u]Mallory[/name_u].
[name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_u]Mar[/name_u], which means ocean in Spanish. [name_f]Mari[/name_f] is also an option.
I realize some of these have 2 syllables.
I initially pronounced this mar-SAHL-ee (which I prefer). But NB says the emphasis is on the first syllable: MAR-suh-lee.
I adore [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], and [name_f]Ismerie[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Ismerie[/name_f] is an unexpected choice that still fits perfectly with brothers [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], and it’s a nice nod to baby [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] in [name_f]Heaven[/name_f]. All four have great nn potential! Nicknames for [name_f]Marsali[/name_f] not yet mentioned here could be [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], Say/Sae, Marcie/Marsy, or [name_u]Li[/name_u]
Thank you so much for all of these! I’ve been staring at the name for months with no inspiration for nicknames! [name_f]My[/name_f] boys go by both their full name and often [name_u]Will[/name_u] & [name_u]Sam[/name_u].
[name_f]My[/name_f] 5 year old has his heart set on [name_f]Marsali[/name_f] and anything else I suggest he refuses.
I keep picturing [name_f]Ismerie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] or [name_f]Ismerie[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f], I have no idea why [name_f]Honey[/name_f] just popped up on my radar and my husband isn’t convinced but I’m usually a braver middle namer. Our daughters middle is [name_f]Fiadh[/name_f]
sal or sally would be lovely with william and samuel!
from the names you listed, my favorites are adelaide and beatrice
suggestions;
Charlotte “Charlie, Lottie”
Verity “Vera”
Julia “Lia, Jules”
Mallory “Mal”
Noelle “Nolie, Ellie”
Melanie “Mel, Annie”
Alyssa “Lyssy, Ally”
Elizabeth “Lizzy, Liz, Beth, Elle, Ellie”
Amelie “Mel”
Catherine “Cathy”
Caroline “Caro, Caro”
Amelia “Amy, Millie”
Alice “Ally, Lyssy”
Margaret “Maggie, Meg”
Alexandra ‘Lexi, Alexa, Alex”
[name_f]Do[/name_f] they go by [name_u]Will[/name_u] and [name_u]Sam[/name_u]? Because I think [name_f]Bea[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as one syllable nicknames with longer full names would go perfectly in a sibset.
I love the idea of [name_f]Marsali[/name_f], nicknamed [name_f]Mari[/name_f]. MAR (rhymes with CAR) ee
Willi@m, S@muel and [name_f]Marsali[/name_f]
[name_u]Will[/name_u], [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_f]Mari[/name_f]
Another idea
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Mara[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Marsali[/name_f] but I also do think [name_u]Mars[/name_u] is cute and could grow on you. Aside from [name_f]Marsali[/name_f] I think [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] with brothers [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] is a perfect addition
I love both, Ismerie feels slightly sparklier and more interesting to me but that’s probably because I’m just so used to Imogen - it’s wild to me that Imogen is #48 in England but not in the top US 1000 there were so many at school with me that it’s become a sort of ‘background’ name which is a shame as it’s genuinely lovely and Immy is so sweet.
Long story short in the U.K. I’d possibly avoid Imogen but in the US it’s a fantastic choice
