Sister for William "Liam"

I’m currently 16 weeks pregnant with a little girl. I already have a 6 year old son named [name_u]William[/name_u] [name_m]Crawford[/name_m] who we call “Liam” for short. When I was pregnant with my son his name would have been [name_f]Nora[/name_f] if he had been a girl. Now 6 years later [name_f]Nora[/name_f] seems super popular but I still do like it. Below are some other girl names that I like.

Middle name options could be the following: [name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], [name_u]Louise[/name_u]

[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]

If you have any other ideas or suggestions please don’t hesitate to share. I need all the inspiration I can get!

I say go with [name_f]Nora[/name_f] if you like it, ultimately depends how much popularity bothers you though. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is so lovely! [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] & [name_f]Vera[/name_f] are great too - I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] as it is but also as a nn for longer names like [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] or [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f].

Few other ideas…
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] (or another name with the “or” sound) “Rora / Rory”
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] “Maggie / [name_f]Mara[/name_f] / Greta”
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] “Jules / Etta”
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] “Rosa”
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] / [name_f]Adaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]

@Greyblue I love the name combos you suggested. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is super sweet. I like the name [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]? I forgot to add it to my list.

@LouC I’m torn. I’ve always been dead set on [name_f]Nora[/name_f] for a girl. Then I happened to tell my mom about the name [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and she fell in love. Some friends have also loved [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] too but the one just doesn’t want me to name my daughter [name_f]Nora[/name_f] so it doesn’t rhyme with her daughter’s name which is [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I told her I’m the one that should have been mad at her because her daughter is only 2.5 years old and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] was my top choice 6 years ago! Also my son who we exclusively call Liam’s name is super popular but he’s actually so far has been really the only [name_u]Liam[/name_u] in his preschool classes and now in Kindergarten. I was worried he would be like me once he got to school (My name is [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and I hated being referred to as [name_f]Emily[/name_f] T in the classroom because there were multiples)

You have so wonderful ideas. I really like [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (Rosamund is also one I think is so pretty), [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] <3

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] is somewhat popular currently, but it’s interesting that you’re concerned about popularity when [name_u]Liam[/name_u] is the #1 most popular boy name. Have you noticed any issues with Liam’s name that you want to avoid or are you just glad you used it regardless of popularity? Thinking about how you feel about your son’s name might give you some clarity on how important popularity is to you for baby girl’s name. And if you decide that popularity is a deal breaker then be aware that [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is more popular than [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is. That being said, I think any of the names on your list are good names so you can’t really go wrong no matter what you choose.

@Emarkulics Thank you! I was replying to a comment above when you posted this. [name_f]My[/name_f] son is named after his father and he is a third. So there was already a [name_m]Bill[/name_m] and [name_u]Billy[/name_u] in the family and my husband didn’t want our son to be nicknamed [name_u]Will[/name_u] so I suggested [name_u]Liam[/name_u]. After he was born I noticed that it began rising in popularity and I got nervous he would be one of many in school but so far he’s been in the only one in his class. I think I’m letting like my mom’s excitement get to me and change my mind. Plus its been six years since we discussed girl names and now that I’m actually having a girl I want to make sure I’m making the right choice!

I just read your above comment and my name is also [name_f]Emily[/name_f] so I totally understand where you’re coming from. I think if you’ve so far loved Liam’s name then I don’t think you’d have any issues with having a daughter named [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. Overall even the most popular names are not as popular now as the top names were 20 years ago or so. So while an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] born in the 90s might have had 5 other Emilys in every class, an [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (or Liam!) born now might only ever have 1, maybe 2, or even none at all. I totally understand the reluctance though since I had a boy name picked out for years and then as soon as we were pregnant and found out it was a boy I immediately panicked and was convinced it wasn’t right and I only thought I liked it because I always said I did but maybe it wasn’t actually my favorite anymore… Well, we ultimately went with the original choice and now I’m so glad I did.

I think [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is lovely as William’s sister. I’m also partial to Hadley; it’s one of the few unisex surname names I like on a girl, I think because of the literary connection (one of [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] Hemingway’s wives was named Hadley). [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is nice too but because it’s an anagram of [name_u]Liam[/name_u] it feels a tad similar? Maybe it’s only something the occasional person would notice though. I can’t say I’m a fan of [name_f]Nora[/name_f] but if you love it it does go well with [name_u]William[/name_u] ‘Liam’.

Oh I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]! So sweet and charming!!

I’m biased towards [name_f]Mila[/name_f] (as I have one and love her name) but I think [name_u]Liam[/name_u] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] are sweet together.

Nora or Eloise
Not a massive fan of Mila with Liam since they have the exact same letters!

[name_f]My[/name_f] only note is to go with [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] or [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] because it fits the [name_u]William[/name_u] “Liam” thing.

I think [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] could work.

Other names you might like.
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] “Ronnie” “Vera”
[name_f]Theresa[/name_f] “Trace or Tissy”
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] “Renna” “Hetty” “Hera”
[name_f]Christine[/name_f] “Tina” “Kit”

Congratulations :two_hearts:

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] sounds great with [name_u]William[/name_u] ‘Liam’ I think if [name_f]Nora[/name_f] has been on your mind since being pregnant with your son go with that name! Personally I don’t think [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is that popular and your other options of [name_f]Mila[/name_f] & [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] seem to have similar levels of popularity. Also statistically [name_f]Nora[/name_f] will not share her name with multiple people in her year like you would have shared [name_f]Emily[/name_f] so for me that wouldn’t be a concern. Regarding the Cora/Nora thing I would actually ignore that friend (harsh I know) but she must have known that you were going to use [name_f]Nora[/name_f] for [name_u]Liam[/name_u] so would have known about the possibility of her [name_f]Cora[/name_f] rhyming with a potential [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. Honestly people can be so frustrating when it comes to names! Anyways all I’m saying is if you love [name_f]Nora[/name_f] go for it. I think [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] would be pretty.

Moving away from [name_f]Nora[/name_f] I do like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] & [name_f]Vera[/name_f] especially [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] which is gorgeous. I think [name_u]William[/name_u] ‘Liam’ needs a more classic sister name so I wouldn’t use [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] or [name_f]Mila[/name_f] they feel slightly trendy and stylistically odd. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] would be pretty personally I love alliteration and I think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] would be sweet.

You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_u]William[/name_u] ‘Liam’ and…

[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Clemency[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]

Good luck

I like [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].

I like the repetition of the letter L in [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]. Also, the L repeating in [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] sounds nice.

How is the overall flow with your last name? Of course, that is very important.

As far as popularity, you can check the popularity of each name in your state to get an idea how the names rank.

I love [name_f]Norah[/name_f] with the ‘h’.

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] is so sweet! And if I were in your situation, I would ignore your friend’s regards of daughters who’s name is [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I doubt that they’ll be in the same class, and it’s not like it’s the same name.

But if it’s also your concern maybe go with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], nn [name_f]Nora[/name_f]? That way you can still call her [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. And [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] is adorable. Good luck!
