My oldest girl is [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], whom we call [name_f]Cora[/name_f].
We are expecting twins (a boy and a girl).
For the boy, we are pretty set on [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u].
We need a name for our twin girl. We would love the middle name to be [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I love L names. Also…should add that our last name is one syllable and begins with an L…all about possible alliteration.
Right now we are thinking—
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Lila[/name_f]—however, [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and the double L’s have become so popular, it’s holding us back.
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], nickname Lavie?–the tough thing is the nickname here…also I wonder how he name [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] would be generally received
Other non- L names we are thinking of…
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
What would go with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and middle name [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] that is kind of vintage?
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is really pretty! I don’t know how popular double L names are becoming, but I know how frustrating it is when it seems like your favourite names are becoming too trendy
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is also really nice. I’ve seen [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Viv[/name_f] as nicknames, if you don’t like Lavie (it’s not my cup of tea either).
Of [name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f], my personal favourite is [name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I do like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Viola[/name_f] goes better with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
Some suggestions:
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: Not totally vintage, but I think it sounds nice with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as well as [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: Vintage, but not outdated.
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: If not [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], then maybe [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]? [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]'s [name_f]Lila[/name_f] nickname could work for her too.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] (two brave literary heroes). I really like how it sounds like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: It’s like the Old-Hollywood version of [name_f]Viola[/name_f].
These are just a few names that I found. My personal favourites are [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], but if you love [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] then go for it Good luck!
I think [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is pretty, although there’s something that seems just a touch off about it to my ear and I can’t put my finger on it. It is pretty, though. Perhaps…
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] but [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] with [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], so toss up for me. Possible nns [name_f]Libby[/name_f] (not intuitive, but I love it as a nn for this name), [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_f]Ona[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f]/[name_f]Lora[/name_f] (possibly too close to [name_f]Cora[/name_f])
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one, although perhaps not the same stylistically as [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]; possible nn [name_f]Linnie[/name_f], [name_f]Lea[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: Another older, Victorian kind of name that fits both [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and is similar to [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]; could use [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Viv[/name_f] as nns for this one, as pp suggested for [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], or Livi or Lav.
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: A lot of people use this as a nn for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I love it that way and I think it’s cute on its own. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] would be great, too.
I also like PP’s suggestion of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. =]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] was my first thought, so another vote for that suggestion. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] (or [name_f]Louella[/name_f]) is sweet and vintage. It’s got those double Ls, so it fits in with trendy names of today but won’t get lost among all the Lilys and Lillians. Nickname options are adorable: [name_f]Lu[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]… [name_f]Luella[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are a smart match.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is another vintage choice with a lot of spunk! And [name_f]Liza[/name_f] is an equally spunky nickname with that L you love.
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] feels less popular than its trendy sister Cecilia, but it’s got an L, a cute nickname (CeCe) and sounds sweet with both Jasper and Cora.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] has those double Ls, and like [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] is has a literary tie (in this case, author [name_f]Willa[/name_f] Cather).
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a great stylistic match for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], making quite the regal combo. But nicknames for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] can bring it back down to earth—[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nell[/name_f]/[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] (love [name_f]Nell[/name_f] with [name_f]Cora[/name_f]!).
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] is another way to get to the nickname [name_f]Nell[/name_f].
From your own list, I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Viola[/name_f].
I would suggest that you go straight to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as it’s a perfectly legitimate name on its own. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is so pretty and works well with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f].
