[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I have two boys named [name_u]Rigel[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and Regulus [name_u]James[/name_u]. My husband and I are expecting twin girls in [name_u]August[/name_u] and are struggling to find twin gurl names that we like and feel go well with [name_u]Rigel[/name_u] and Regulus. We love space names (hence our boys names) and want our girls to share the the same first letter like our boys do.
Congratulations on your twins! I’ve picked out some combinations that are a bit different but feel very wearable just as your sons’ names are.
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Elara[/name_f], [name_f]Maia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mimosa[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_f]Livana[/name_f]. Thoughts?
Ok, this was a lot of fun!
As far as meaning goes, [name_f]Alula[/name_f] is the first double star to be identified as physically related to it’s twin. So if the meaning isn’t to on the nose for you all, I certainly like the fact that it is both space and twin themed.
[name_f]Alula[/name_f] and [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
[name_f]Alcyone[/name_f] and [name_f]Adhara[/name_f]
[name_f]Astra[/name_f] and [name_u]Ara[/name_u]
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] and [name_f]Aquila[/name_f]
[name_f]Carina[/name_f] and [name_f]Ceres[/name_f]- I like that this set starts with the same letter but has a different sound
[name_f]Electra[/name_f] and [name_f]Eris[/name_f]
[name_f]Galatea[/name_f] and [name_u]Gemini[/name_u]- again the twin connection and so much nickname potential with this set. [name_f]Gem[/name_f] is incredible in my opinion.
Hesper and Hydra- something about Hesper is just striking to me.
[name_u]Rigel[/name_u] and Regulus are such cool names! [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce them both?
My personal favourite R names:
[name_u]Raven[/name_u]
Rayen “ry-en”
[name_u]Reeve[/name_u]
Revelyn
[name_u]Rey[/name_u] (Space-themed due to [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars?)
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_f]Romia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
Royalty
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
Other ideas:
Rasalas (A star in the constellation of [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and the babies could be [name_m]Leos[/name_m]!)
Resnik ([name_f]Judith[/name_f] Resnik was the fourth woman in space)
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f] ([name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Rhea[/name_f] Seddon flew on three Space Shuttle flights)
[name_f]Roberta[/name_f] ([name_f]Roberta[/name_f] Bondar was the first Canadian woman in space)
Rubins ([name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] Rubins is a current NASA astronaut)
Thanks so much!!! All of these suggestions are fantastic! ” [name_u]Rigel[/name_u] is pronounced Rhy-gel and Regulus is pronounced exactly as it looks [name_m]Reg[/name_m]-u-lus- that’s the best thing about old Latin names ”
My favorite so far are [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] and [name_u]Calypso[/name_u], but my husband and I are worried about some of the negative connotations that hang around them…
next comes [name_f]Elara[/name_f], but we are struggling to find another E name that is resonating with us…
Shout out to kate2552 for the name [name_f]Alula[/name_f]! It is so perfect!! But my husband, ”, says it sounds too much like a stripper name. It’s a hard no ”
[name_f]Carina[/name_f] is another constellation name—maybe to pair with [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] or [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] if you’re worried about one of them?
With [name_f]Elara[/name_f], what about [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f]? I realize [name_f]Eve[/name_f] isn’t overtly space-related, but it does conjure images of a lovely sunset and the stars coming out.
A few other space-related ideas:
Despina
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Helene[/name_f]
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f], [name_f]Leda[/name_f]
[name_f]Talitha[/name_f] and [name_f]Tania[/name_f] (the names of stars in [name_f]Ursa[/name_f] [name_m]Major[/name_m]—I love these for sisters!)
[name_f]Carina[/name_f] is really nice, too!
I’ve been really thinking on the name Hesper. Would [name_f]Helene[/name_f] be too “normal/common” next to Hesper?
As odd as it sounds, I want all my kiddos to have the same level of name. No complaints when they are older about one having a nicer name than another…
I think [name_f]Helene[/name_f] and Hesper would go together—[name_f]Helene[/name_f] hasn’t been in the U.S. top 1,000 since 1970, so it’s quite unusual, and it has an extra something compared to [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. Mysteriousness, maybe? Urbaneness? For those reasons I think it would definitely stand up next to Hesper.
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Eartha[/name_f], or [name_f]Electra[/name_f] / [name_f]Elektra[/name_f] would pair well with [name_f]Elara[/name_f]. Alternatively, you could modify the spelling of [name_f]Elara[/name_f] to Alara and use [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. Wikipedia also has an impressively long list of named minor planets starting with the letter E, which I think is definitely worth a look if you have a minute. A few from that list include:
I really love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Callisto[/name_f] together! So pretty. If you’re a little brave, [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_u]Vega[/name_u] would be pretty together too.
Thanks so much for responding! I was hoping we’d get an update from you!
Following up on your post, I think Hesper and [name_f]Helene[/name_f] are beautiful together. While Hesper sounds more unique, it steel feels approachable which I think is the same feeling I get with [name_f]Helene[/name_f]. I haven’t heard it in a while (albeit not like having never heard it which was the case with Hesper) but I recognize it as both unique and familiar.
Shoutout to iwantbabynames! My husband loved the name suggestions you posted
Our top combinations are:
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] and [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]
Hesper and [name_f]Helene[/name_f]
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
Any continued suggestions or middle name ideas would be great! Thanks
