I think [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is beautiful with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and for me [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Audie[/name_u] are a bit too similar. I would prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] to [name_f]Audra[/name_f] which could give you [name_f]Dree[/name_f] as a nickname, which I personally love. It’s obviously more traditional than [name_f]Audra[/name_f], though. I think [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is the way to go - [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Ari[/name_u] are sweet together!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.
I adore [name_f]Audra[/name_f], & I think that [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] & [name_f]Audra[/name_f] work well together. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] & [name_u]Audie[/name_u] on the other hand do sound sort of close for sisters. [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is beautiful, & seems like a perfect fit. I wouldn’t worry too much about the LOTR thing. I think that people will either a.) not know that it’s from LOTR, or b.) know & love it. You could also use the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. It doesn’t start w/an ‘a’, but it sure if cute!
As for the rest of your list, [name_f]Anora[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is pretty popular, but the nn [name_f]Ani[/name_f] is fun. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is okay, but just sort of trendy. Or at least very similar to trendy names like [name_f]Layla[/name_f] & [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Plus, the pronunciation is confusing. I don’t know if it’s ‘aye-luh’ or ‘eye-luh’. That may be an issue for others as well.
Another option (which I think I had mentioned to you in a previous post) is [name_f]Anwen[/name_f]. I’d venture to say that it’s even more unique than [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], & you don’t have the worry about the LOTR thing.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
I have always loved [name_f]Anya[/name_f] and [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f].
For me it’s out of [name_f]Audra[/name_f] and [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]. I really like both those and could go either way.
I voted [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] but [name_f]Audra[/name_f] is a very close second
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Anora[/name_f] are both beautiful !
I think [name_f]Audra[/name_f] is too close to her sister’s name, especially since she goes by [name_f]Addie[/name_f] a lot of the time. And [name_f]Layla[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilah[/name_f]/[name_f]Isla[/name_f]/[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] are all really popular. Plus I think [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] sounds too modern next to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].

I love, love [name_f]Audra[/name_f]! [name_f]Anora[/name_f] would be my second choice especially being that it may not flow well with your last name. [name_f]Audra[/name_f] stands well on its own and I think that when we choose a beautiful name, ideally that is the name we use rather than a nickname. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]/[name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_f]Audra[/name_f] are meant to be sisters!
You all are so great. Thank you so much for all the very welcome input! I hadn’t thought about [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Audie[/name_u] being too similar, just thought they sounded cute together. I’m not sure how much we would use a nickname for [name_f]Audra[/name_f] anyway since it’s not nearly as long a name as [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. I think we’re still leaning [name_f]Audra[/name_f]. I did this same thing close to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]'s birth as well, started second guessing and considering other names. I appreciate having the input to help during the ruminating that seems to be inevitable for me this close to the due date!
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is the winner for me! I have a huge name crush on her at the moment, and I had no idea of the LOTR association. I’m Welsh, so [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] isn’t too unfamiliar to me anyway. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Ari[/name_u] are adorable!
Thanks again, everyone! I appreciate everyone’s input. I think I am in agreement with the poll in that I think I like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] better as a name. However when you include our last name and all other names in our family, I think [name_f]Audra[/name_f] just works and fits in better. We’ll see. She may show up in a few weeks and just look far too much like an [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] to pass it up.
[name_f]May[/name_f] I suggest: [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] {and} [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
That’s adorable and I love it…but we all have names that begin with A, so we’re sticking with that.
If you’re unsure about the LOTR connection, perhaps you could consider [name_u]Arden[/name_u]? It would still get you close to [name_u]Ari[/name_u], and you trade LOTR for [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] cred. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought
I do like that one! Thanks! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time we ask our toddler now, though, she insists her baby sister is [name_u]Audie[/name_u] or [name_f]Audra[/name_f], so we may stick with it We’ve also kind of decided that for us (we’re old folks), we just can’t shake the LOTR association for [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]. The movies were far to prevalent for our aged folks and we can’t hear the name without thinking of [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] and hearing other elvish language all around it. I’m sure girls in their 20s will absolutely love the name, but for us upper 30-somethings, we’re just not able to shake it.
[name_f]Anora[/name_f] is my favorite from the list. [name_f]Audra[/name_f] sounds a bit awkward to me, sorry. I prefer [name_u]Adria[/name_u].
I’m loving [name_f]Audra[/name_f] for you: it has the same classic, but surprising, vibe and feminine strength that [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] has.
Gorgeous though [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is, it reads a bit too “pop culture” in comparison (although LOTR is obviously literature first and foremost).
I find [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] a bit bland and similar to several popular names, like [name_f]Layla[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_f]Anora[/name_f] feels like an unnecessary elaboration of [name_f]Nora[/name_f] (although I like the very similar [name_f]Annora[/name_f] a lot – funny what a difference one letter can make!)
Like others have said, I wouldn’t use the nicknames [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Audie[/name_u] together – too confusing! But [name_f]Audra[/name_f] doesn’t really need shortening, as you say.
Other A names I’d suggest to you:
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
Avonlea
[name_f]Alberta[/name_f]
[name_u]Albany[/name_u]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Ardith[/name_f]
[name_f]Aerin[/name_f]
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Audra[/name_f] with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. I don’t think it needs to be shortened to a nickname; it is already only two syllables. Plus, I think it’s nice to have two different endings when you say the names together. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_f]Audra[/name_f] sounds great to me…Better than [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Audie[/name_u]. Too sing-songy.
Thank you for capturing my feelings in a much more eloquent way than I ever could! I think all of that is why we’re zeroing in on [name_f]Audra[/name_f] I really enjoy older sounding, different, and seldom used names. We’ve considered [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] as well, but agree that with [name_f]Audra[/name_f] not really needing to be shortened, the two sound good together whether we use our oldest’s full name or nickname.
