Sister to Phoebe, Oscar and Rose

Expecting our last baby (#4) - a girl. I am so indecisive re her name. I want something simple, soft, feminine and traditional.

We already have [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

Which name suits best from the following list. Middle name can be anything. I prefer names that won’t be shortened

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I like all of your options!

In order of preference, I would say

  1. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is the most traditional, soft, and feminine to me
  2. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] also fit the bill and go perfectly with her siblings names. I only prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] just because it’s the name of one of my favorite characters from a movie called Howl’s Moving [name_m]Castle[/name_m].
  3. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is the least feminine to my ear, but still feels traditional and soft!

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my vote. Fits your description of “simple, soft, feminine, and traditional” and has the same storybook quality of your other children’s names.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] share an ending with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (+ [name_f]Rose[/name_f] / [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] / [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] share many of the same sounds in my accent) and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is another flower like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], leaving [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] out. Obviously, these reasons are very minor – I think all of your choices are usable and work great with the sibling set!

Any of these lovely names would work in your set, but my vote goes to [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! She’s the perfect fit. Each child gets their own initial and ending sound. I have a soft spot for [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and I recently met a maybe-10-year-old [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and remembered how much I like it in real life.

Tricky:
I don’t love the name Alice - it’s a fave on here but I have a few Alices in my life and I don’t enjoy saying the name - which to me is a bit retentive and unfriendly and has “lice” in the name (not the main thing, I just don’t find the name charming). But it is objectively a good match, just not for me. Not sure though about Violet - means everyone has different ending which is a win but not sure about two flower names back to back? Sophie is nice and ages well but possibly not as interesting as Phoebe and Rose. So that leaves Audrey - I really love the name Audrey and would pick this unless you want them all to have different endings? I think Audrey or Sophie.

For different endings:

Stella
Willa
Thea
Celeste
Charlotte
Sophia / Sofia
Anna
Mia
Clara
Claire
Eliza

Other possibilities (same endings as other sibs):

Bronte
Chloe
Elise
Eloise
Valerie

Hope that helps! Phoebe and Rose are two of my favourite girl names. :ribbon:

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] probably pairs best with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] pairs the best with all of them.

Middle options for each (a mix of new and suggested):

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f]

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Cara[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]

Hopefully these help!

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is so perfect! [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] :revolving_hearts:

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] the most but I don’t think it goes that well with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] are the best options as they fit really nicely and are both pretty. When I see the name [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], my brain says it like ‘Ooooor-draaaay’ so it’s sort of ruined for me and the ‘y’ doesn’t really match with the other names.

Congratulations :tada::tada:

As I have said before I love your kiddos names!

Looking at your list the standout choice for me is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] :bouquet:

I absolutely love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] she’s glamorous, has the lovely meaning noble strength, is elegant, feels unexpected to my [name_f]British[/name_f] ears and I think works so well with the brightness of [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], the sophisticated glamour feel of [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] along with the classic feel of [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I absolutely love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] for you!

[name_f]My[/name_f] next choice is [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. She’s sweet, energetic, spunky and feels almost whimsical within your sibling set. I like that [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] has the lovely meaning wisdom. I think she’s lovely and has massively grown on me over the years.

Regarding [name_f]Violet[/name_f] she’s lovely but I’m not sure about her with sister [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in a sibling set where the rest of kiddos aren’t floral. There’s something that isn’t clicking for me. In relation to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] she’s a berry favourite but just isn’t a favourite for me all I hear is ‘lice’ and I have strong negative associations with [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

I love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], and think it’s the best option from your list for [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], & Rose’s sister. You’d still have an “o” in all the kids’ names, and all the girls’ names would end in “e”, and they’re stylistically well-matched. [name_f]Pretty[/name_f] fantastic.

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favorite combo, but they are all great options!

This is tough, as they’re all good choices! I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] gets my vote, though I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as well. I’m not sure where you’re located but in the US, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] are much more popular than the rest of your kids names.

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes to [name_f]Alice[/name_f], although I do like all your options. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is actually my favourite, but two flower names in a sibset would be a bit jarring to me (although if that doesn’t bug you it doesn’t matter). [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] isn’t a favourite, and I’ve known so many Sophies it just doesn’t have the special sparkle of your other kids’ names. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] has a gentle regal sound I just love, and stylistically they’re beautifully matched!

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] gets my vote but [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is a runner up. If you are looking for suggestions then I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] would be a great choice

I would rank your list
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], & [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] would make a stunning sibset

I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] fits really well with your other children’s names!

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] Catherine/Katherine
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

I think all these names are very nice! [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] are my personal favorites, but I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is best with the siblings, because [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] are a little rhymey for my taste (but not horribly so). I also think if you don’t want them to be shortened, the two A names are also the best choices, because I think for a lot of people [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] get intuitively shortened to [name_f]Vi[/name_f] and [name_f]Soph[/name_f].
