Sisters Avery & Ainsley?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,

This is my first post, although I’ve been lurking for quite some time now!

I have a 5 year old daughter named [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] ([name_f]Michelle[/name_f] is to honour my sister). When my husband and I started discussing names when I was pregnant with her, the only name he wanted was [name_u]Avery[/name_u], whereas I was a more open! [name_u]Avery[/name_u] (who we call Aves a lot of the time) was the only name we both agreed on.

Now I’m 27 weeks pregnant with baby girl # 2, and he has his heart set on [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]. I really love the name, but I worry it sounds to similar to [name_u]Avery[/name_u], especially when we talk about nicknames. To me, natural nickname for [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] is “Ains”.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] sound too similar to be siblings? And if I had a third baby, would we have to continue the “A” trend? Any other suggestions are welcome. Some of the other names on my list that hubby has vetoed, just to give you an idea of my naming style, are:

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]

Thanks for your help!

[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]

I don’t mind [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] together - in fact I think it’s would be a cute little theme to have your girls have A______y names. Here is my concern: what if you have a third daughter? [name_m]Will[/name_m] you try to follow a theme already created or would you feel comfortable breaking it? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you expect your child to feel if she the odd-girl out? If you and your hubby can find one or two more names that you love that fit the theme I’d say go for it, if not I’d suggest looking for something else.

[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] could also be nn’d [name_u]Lee[/name_u]/[name_u]Leigh[/name_u], Ails, Ailee, etc. There are options that would make it less like Aves and more like its own name.

[name_f]My[/name_f] name ing style is very different to yours but I also like… [name_u]Haven[/name_u] (maybe too close to [name_u]Avery[/name_u] with the [name_f]Ave[/name_f] connection), [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]… [name_f]Hope[/name_f] some of these help.

[name_f]Welcome[/name_f]!

To me, [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] (and Aves and Ains) are too close for sisters - if you yell them out loud, I think it would be confusing as to which of them you’re calling.

I do think you could use another A name if you want to, and if you did, I don’t think you’d necessarily have to continue the trend with a third child. If you used it for the first three children, I might think you should continue it for #4, though.

From your list, my favourites with [name_u]Avery[/name_u] are [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Harlow[/name_f], and [name_u]Harper[/name_u].

Some suggestions off the top of my head:

[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]

I think they sound cute together. They are matchy for sure, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (and may not be yours), but they have enough different letters in the middle that it’s not unusable. Aves and Ains are a bound to cause confusion though. Avey and Ains might be better, and Aves to Avey wouldn’t be too big of a switch.

Some more ideas: [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_u]Reese[/name_u], [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Jessa[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_u]Blair[/name_u], [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], [name_f]Alexa[/name_f], [name_u]Alexis[/name_u], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]…

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Della[/name_f] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] & Aves?)
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] & [name_f]Tess/name_f
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] & [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] & [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] & [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] & [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] & [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] or [name_f]Alexa[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] & [name_u]Scout[/name_u]

I honestly think they could work together, but if you had a third girl you would have to continue the trend (if you had a boy I don’t think you would have to). From your list I love [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_u]Harper[/name_u] with [name_u]Avery[/name_u].

Other suggestions:
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_u]Peyton[/name_u]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]

What do you call [name_u]Avery[/name_u]? [name_f]My[/name_f] friend [name_f]Aynslee[/name_f]'s nn is Ayns, so I think that’s what most people go to for a nn. If it’ll be Aves and Ayns, well, you’ll be able to call them both to dinner with one word  But you can also set the nns to be different. The full forms are different enough if you don’t mind the A name trend. They are both beautiful names.

Maybe Kinsleigh would be close enough to [name_f]Ainsleigh[/name_f] for your DH but different enough for nns?

I like [name_u]Avery[/name_u]! I really dislike [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]. When I hear it, I always hear anus. I like [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] from your list [name_m]How[/name_m] about:

[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

Personally, I find [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] to be too similar for siblings. Not only do they share the same initials, they have repetitive “ay” and “ee” sounds that are matchy. As far as naming future children are concerned: two that are similar would be a “coincidence” but three would be a “pattern”. [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] could be used as a middle name to make your husband happy. Here are some suggestions.

[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Leighton[/name_u]
[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]/[name_u]Tegan[/name_u]
[name_u]Larkin[/name_u]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]

I think they’re a bit too matchy to call up the stairs to one of them without confusion. But the other names you listed all fit very well with [name_u]Avery[/name_u]. Another similar name is [name_f]Annesley[/name_f], slightly less matchy because the A sound is different. You could call her [name_f]Annie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ann[/name_f], which is a lot less similar than Aves and Aines.

I read on a name blog “two is a coincidence, three is a theme,” and I agree. You can have two names with a common letter or sound, but once you add a third you’re in matchy territory. You could have, for instance, [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and it wouldn’t surprise me. But if you had [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], it would feel weird if you had a fourth kid named [name_u]Riley[/name_u].

I think they are matchy but I don’t think they would cause confusion for the two girls. They begin with the same letter and end with the same letter, sure, but the letters between them sound completely different. Ayv and Ayns for a beginning and Vree and Slee as an ending… Not all that confusing as Avery is 3 syllables and Ainsley is 2, so they could easily differentiate between who is being called at. Aves and Ains on the other hand - really confusing.
