Sisters Isabelle & Adele - names too alike?

Help me please!!! My husband and I love the name [name]Adele[/name], but our 2yr old is called [name]Isabelle[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Adele[/name] is too similar to use for our new baby? The only other name we can agree on is [name]Lillian[/name], but we like [name]Adele[/name] more.

I think you should go with [name]Adele[/name] if you prefer it over [name]Lillian[/name]. I don’t think they’re too alike.
Although their endings sound similar don’t let it put you off from using [name]Adele[/name].

I find them too similar because they rhyme. It helps a little that they do not have the same number of syllables.

They do rhyme… If you like [name]Adele[/name] more, I’d say to go for it. [name]Just[/name] be aware that people might find that the similarity makes it hard to use the right name for the right girl from time to time.

Definitely too similar sounding at the end for me. Perhaps [name]Adela[/name] as an alternative?

You probably like [name]Adele[/name] because you love the name [name]Isabelle[/name] so much. They are too similar for me (The [name]Abelle[/name] in [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Adele[/name] are almost the same). [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] or [name]Adela[/name] would be better. Liliian would be lovely with [name]Isabelle[/name].

I’m sorry, but they do sound too similar, people will definitely notice. It sounds like you took the ending of [name]Isabelle[/name] and switched one letter with a very similar-sounding one.

I agree with [name]Mischa[/name], [name]Adeline[/name] or [name]Adelaide[/name] would solve the problem.

Good suggestions! I fear you may be right! Perhaps we’ll have to go with [name]Lillian[/name]. The nicknames [name]Belle[/name] & [name]Lilly[/name] are quite cute! I recently discovered [name]Adelia[/name], which I love, but my husband doesn’t like it. Isn’t that always the way?!

I don’t think they’re too similar. For me the stress falls on the D in [name]Adele[/name], and there are no hard consonants in [name]Isabelle[/name]. I actually find [name]Lillian[/name] awfully close to [name]Isabelle[/name] because of the repetition of the Ls and the soft I–and the fact that both are three syllables.

If you both love [name]Adele[/name], I’d use it. [name]Ad[/name] if you are into nicknames, then you have [name]Addy[/name] and [name]Belle[/name]–which are less similar than [name]Lilly[/name] and [name]Belle[/name].

They most definitely sound too similar.

They sound similar. [name]Mischa[/name] had good solutions if that is a concern. I personally dont see them as so similar that they are unusable together though, mainly because of the syllable difference.

Argh, it’s all so confusing! I think we’ll have to ditch [name]Adele[/name] - so disappointing!!! Maybe I can convince the husband on [name]Adelia[/name], although I do worry that people will think I’m trying to use a variation of [name]Amelia[/name], given it’s popularity. Thanks for your input!

Could go with [name]Adeline[/name] same number of syllable as isabelle and I think the two name sound great together. Also, if you usually shorten isabelle with a nn like*izzy or belle or bella or something you could use adele or addy as a nn for [name]Adeline[/name]!

At first I didn’t think much about it, but the more I ponder the more it bothers me. I think it sounds too matchy. [name]May[/name] I suggest considering [name]Adela[/name] or [name]Adeline[/name]?
