Sisters names?

It’s taken me a while, but I think I have decided on a name for our second baby if it’s a girl (we aren’t finding out).

Our daughter’s name is [name]Amelia[/name] (always called [name]Millie[/name], though). I came across the name [name]Emmeline[/name] (pronounced [name]Emma[/name]-line like [name]Caroline[/name]). It never even occurred to me that these names were very similar until I saw that they came from the same root originally.

Would [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] (or really, [name]Millie[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]) be too similar? I really like that it’s old fashioned and still uncommon, even though there are lots of Emilys and Emmas around.

[name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] are too similar for me.

Yeah, it’s a bit too similar, especially since they come from the same root. It’s kind of like using [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Katarina[/name] or something!

Btw, when I looked up the name [name]Emmeline[/name], I found lots of [name]Emmeline[/name] Amelias in old genealogy records.

That’s very interesting info! It doesn’t really change my personal opinion; I think the names are too similar for siblings or for a fn-mn combo, but these are your lovely littles and you get the awesome privilege of naming them however you please  However, you did ask for input, and I was just being candid; I apologize if I offended.

Are you looking at alternative names at all/do you want any suggestions?

No offense at all! [name]Just[/name] forgot to mention that in my post.

I have some other names I thought about- [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], and [name]Marianne[/name] were near the top- but for some reason, I’m stuck on this one tonight. I’m really indecisive lol.

I think [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] sound too similar too. I like all of your other top choices. [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], and [name]Marianne[/name] are all beautiful. You couldn’t go wrong with any of them.

I don’t think they are too similar if you use [name]Emmie[/name]/[name]Emma[/name] and [name]Millie[/name] as nn’s… If you love the name i think [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] could be sisters! I think [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name] are stunning and [name]IMO[/name] more memorable sisters however… I love [name]Rosalie[/name]!!

[name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Elinor[/name] | [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name] | [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] = all gorgeous! Also the nicknames are too adorable, haha. I love [name]Elle[/name] and just plain E for [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Rosie[/name] for [name]Rosalie[/name], and I really like [name]Maisie[/name] (or [name]Mimi[/name]) for [name]Margaret[/name]!

I really love [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Elinor[/name] as sisters. Beautiful.

Is the reason you don’t like [name]Emma[/name] the popularity? Because if so, I’d suggest [name]Gemma[/name], which is less popular, but similar to [name]Emma[/name]. Otherwise, I don’t think [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] are that similar that you absolutely can’t use them, especially if their nicknames are [name]Millie[/name] and [name]Emme[/name].

Another suggestion would be to use [name]Caroline[/name]. [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] would be a nice sibset.

Yes, the only reason I’m not as fond of it is the popularity. [name]Emmeline[/name] didn’t even rank in the top 1000 names. I’d probably mostly be calling them “[name]Millie[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]”.

I do love [name]Caroline[/name], and would have used it, but a family member already did (it’s a family name), so this was a kind of compromise for me.

I’d probably mostly be calling them “[name]Millie[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]”. I don’t think I’d nickname [name]Emmeline[/name] as much.

They are terribly similar, and I think you might run into pronunciation problems with [name]Emmeline[/name], as well. I’ve only ever heard it pronounced [name]Emma[/name]-leen. Purely food for thought, but, as a younger sister, I would not have enjoyed having a version of my older sister’s name. I love all the other names you listed, especially [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]Marianne[/name].

I would not use [name]Emmaline[/name] if she has a sister named [name]Emilia[/name]. I think [name]Elinor[/name] is beautiful - an excellent choice.

I know an [name]Emmeline[/name]; she pronounces it [name]Emma[/name]-line (not -leen) and goes by the nickname [name]Emme[/name] (pronounced [name]Emmie[/name]). I agree with everyone that it’s too close to [name]Amelia[/name].

But I love your alternatives, especially [name]Elinor[/name], with [name]Amelia[/name].

They are actually pretty similar. Amelia is almost like Emily, and Emmeline comes from Emily. And really, Millie and Emmy are even more similar.

Adaline -Addie & Millie
Abiline - Abbie & Millie
Coraline - Cora/Cori & Millie

Names I think go well with Amelia:
Abigail - Abbie & Millie
Juliet - Julie & Millie
Corinne - Cora/Cori & Millie
Winnifred - Winnie & Millie
Charlotte - Charlie/Lottie & Millie
Cecilia - Ceci & Millie
Lucille - Lucy & Millie
Wilhelmine - Willa/Minnie/Mina & Millie

Elinor, Rosalie, Margaret, and Marianne all go well with Amelia, as they have that vintage and elegant feel to them. I recommend spelling Elinor as Eleanor, as its the spelling everyone will think it is anyway. Ellie & Millie, Rosie & Millie, Margo/Maggie/Peggy & Millie, Mary/Annie/Rina & Millie

As you can see in my signature my daughter is [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Story[/name]. I got told [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] were far to close to put next to each other, some told me they were unbearably close. Clearly, I didn’t let them stop me!
I have had nothing but praise for [name]Emmeline[/name]'s name, so I think you’d get double the praise for two named [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name].
I love both names!

[name]Grace[/name]

P.S. Oh but only one issue I would have, my daughter goes by [name]Milly[/name]… So people may call [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Milly[/name] and then you could have serious issues! But it’s not that big of an issue!

[name]Amelia[/name] & [name]Rosalie[/name]! I love the name [name]Emmeline[/name] but I think it’s too similar to [name]Amelia[/name].

I actually think [name]Rosalie[/name] goes perfectly with [name]Amelia[/name], now that I think about it. [name]Rosalie[/name] could also go by [name]Ro[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosie[/name], [name]Sally[/name], and [name]Allie[/name]; test all those out with [name]Millie[/name].
