Not a name I plan to use but intriguing nevertheless. Useable?
How is it pronounced?
It’s Greek and a really interesting story behind it.
It’s sis-see-fus
I don’t think it’s useable. I just think of Sisiphus being punished in Tartarus and of Sisyphean tasks.
That’s fair enough . If people are using [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]( goddess of the underworld) and [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] I didn’t really see the problem lol.
Haha, good point! I personally wouldn’t say those are very useable either but some people do indeed use them.
Honestly, I would feel really bad for any boy with this name. It’s difficult to pronounce, doesn’t sound pleasant, and so easy to make fun of.
They are probably guilty pleasure names for me. I love the Greek mythology names.
I think maybe if it was pronounced Sis-sy-fuss maybe better?
I love Greek mythology names as well, as guilty pleasures!
Yes I’m more likely to name a cat after these names haha. But I admire parents who do use the names.
I’d be amazed if I’d ever meet a [name_m]Sisyphus[/name_m]!
It’s interesting for sure
Hmm I haven’t heard of it before so this is a snap reaction but it reminded me of syphilis…
Hah oh gosh! Yeah I see it.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought as well
It has an interesting history, but I really don’t think it’s usable at all, given its similarity to the homophobic word “s*ssy” and “syphilis”. The teasing potential is just too much.
Seconding @choupette
I agree that it has a somewhat intriguing sound, but it isn’t usable to me based on how common it is to refer to Sisyphean tasks. [name_m]Just[/name_m] seeing the name kind of exhausts me!
Agree with @choupette unfortunately. The first thing I saw was sissy I think a name starting with Sis would be difficult enough, but a simple mispronounciation would have sissy built right in. It’s too much. At least for [name_f]English[/name_f] speakers.
