I am due in 6 weeks and we cannot decide on a boy’s name (we don’t know what we are having). We need some help.
I am looking for a name that is strong and masculine but can allow my child to be anything from a firefighter to a CEO. I have always had an aversion to overly popular names but we recently fell in love with [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. I am in CA and had no idea that it is such a popular name across the country. Surnames appeal to me as they are often easily recognized but not often used as a first name. Both [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] are family names. Opinions and suggestions please!!
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] - love [name_m]Liam[/name_m], but popularity doesn’t bother me. I like using the middle name to honor family members.
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] - good combo but I prefer it the other way around: [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m].
[name_m]Ford[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - love [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] but I’m not a fan of word names. [name_m]Ford[/name_m] reminds me of the car company.
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - again, I don’t like using word names. Also I don’t think this flows as well as your other choices because both names are two syllables.
I like [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and if you love it, I wouldn’t worry about the popularity. You could also use [name_m]William[/name_m] with the NN [name_m]Liam[/name_m] if you like. Of course [name_m]William[/name_m] is probably more popular so either way…
I think [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] is a good middle only because I don’t like [name_m]Harry[/name_m] as a NN - not sure if that is a given or not.
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is too feminine for me - it reminds me of [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f] salad.
My favorite options would be:
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] (I like [name_m]Levi[/name_m] a smidge more than [name_m]Liam[/name_m])
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Ford[/name_m]
I really like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m], and [name_m]Ford[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] is handsome, and I too adore the name [name_m]Liam[/name_m]… it just doesn’t stand out as much as the rest of your list, since it’s more common. But if it feels like the right name for you, I would not worry about popularity at all. He will be his own [name_m]Liam[/name_m].
Another thought, you could use [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] to honor [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]–in case you like it more or would be more inclined use [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] as a first.
I love [name_m]Liam[/name_m], but it is REALLY popular. Either [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] or [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] would be my pick (both [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] are in my top 10!) If you aren’t sold on those, here are a few others you might like:
Thank you so much everyone! I am very thankful for your opinions and also the suggestions!
@Vaness1: We must have similar taste given your liking of [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and the fact that [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] (from your list) is our dog’s name!
I really love the name [name_m]Ford[/name_m], so that gets my vote. It’s easy to spell and pronounce, but not common, and it sounds very strong dignified to me.
I like [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]…not a huge fan of [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] but love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m].
I love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! And family names almost always win out for me, so I’d do [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Ford[/name_m] as well, especially as a nn for Fordham.
I just can’t do [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. I’m not sure about everywhere else, but I truly feel like every other little boy is being named [name_m]Liam[/name_m] right now and it’s just ruined it for me personally. I know popularity doesn’t matter to some people, but for me it does.
