Skipper for a baby boy?

What do you think of the name [name_u]Skipper[/name_u], I don’t think I’ve met anyone named this. I have family from Skibbereen, [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and thought it was a cool family tie in.

Honest feedback appreciated!

I think for a baby boy it would be cute. But I don’t think it works on an adult. I would maybe find a name that [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] can be a nickname to, or just use [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] as a cute unrelated nickname personally.

I wouldn’t expect it as a first but it would make a cute nickname!

I think [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] is super cool as a nickname, but I personally don’t love it as a given name. I love the tie in with your family history though!

Don’t see it as a first name unfortunately, not my style.

I too love it for a nickname, but I’m not so sure it sounds serious enough to be a full first name.

The family connection would be awesome, though! The only “formal” name for nn [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] I can think of is [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], but as @anon73451839 says, [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] could easily work as an unrelated pet name no matter what the formal first name. It feels sweet and friendly and universal, like [name_m]Buster[/name_m] or [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] or [name_m]Chip[/name_m].

I love it for a nickname, but I also don’t think it works for a full name. What about tying in the nautical theme with [name_u]Sailor[/name_u], [name_m]Ahab[/name_m], [name_m]Nemo[/name_m], [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], [name_m]Davey[/name_m], or something similar? Otherwise, I think [name_m]Kipton[/name_m] or [name_m]Kipling[/name_m] could work as a full name.

Either a middle name or a nickname. I’m all about cool family ties, but this doesn’t seem like a usable first name, to me.

Hopefully there is something else regarding [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], or that specific area, that could honor this heritage? For example, I have the name [name_f]Maple[/name_f] on my girl middle name list, because my family is from [name_m]Vermont[/name_m], US. I’m not sure if there’s something like this for your heritage, but it could be an alternative!

Skipper is fun, and would definitely fit the right person. Though I think I would adore it more as a nn… [name_u]Scott[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m], nn [name_u]Skipper[/name_u]?

Other ideas:
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Scottie[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_u]Cooper[/name_u]

I adore [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] for both boys and girls, but take my advice with a grain of salt as I also love [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] and [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Oh please only use this as a nickname! Cute as a nn, but I could not take an adult seriously with this as his formal first name…

I kind of like it. It’s quirky but at the same time feels like names like [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] or [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]

It’s a cute nickname, but I can’t see it as a given name. I can’t imagine a Dr. [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] or [name_m]President[/name_m] [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]. I just don’t think it would age well.

Side note: It reminds me of [name_m]Scooter[/name_m] [name_m]Braun[/name_m] (not a positive association).

If [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] works I don’t see why [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] can’t. [name_m]Skip[/name_m] and Skippy are also cute nicknames

One of my dad’s all-time favourite shows is Gilligan’s island and it’s all I can think of. [name_m]Can[/name_m]’t take it seriously, sorry

I second this! [name_u]Skipper[/name_u] would work as a middle name, I think.

Prefer as a middle name but I still like it. Makes me think of one of the penguins from the Madagascar movies but that isn’t a negative association.

I really like it but can’t picture it on a resume. I would suggest BOTH putting it in the middle spot and using it as a nickname, but with a different first name option.

I think it could be cute as a childhood nickname, but it’s just too cutesy for an adult’s full name, imo. You could even call him that as a nickname with a name that isn’t connected, just as a cutesy childhood nickname.

I like it but agree with everyone it’s better as a nickname. I also like [name_u]Hopper[/name_u]!
