Skylar and Gemma

What’s your opinion on the girl names [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like them? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they age well? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they sound classy/professional, or are they at all trashy/ditzy sounding? (Yes, I know it is the person who makes the name, not the other way around – but still, first impressions/biases do matter to me). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nicknames [name_u]Skye[/name_u] and [name_f]Gem[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they make a good sibset? Any other thoughts?

Thanks so much

[name_u]Skylar[/name_u] is a fun name, I love the nickname [name_u]Skye[/name_u]! [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] isn’t my cup of tea, but it’s a lovely, balanced choice and [name_f]Gem[/name_f] is a cute nickname
I think they’d both age well!

I like Gemma! It feels trendy without being overdone, and nickname Gem is so cute. It definitely gives off preppy vibes.
Skylar is nice, but I don’t really like it. It’s easy to misspell (Skyler, Schuyler, Sky instead of Skye, etc) and it feels quite dated to the early 2000s to me. I’d expect a Skylar to be at least 15. But it’s still not a bad name!

I absolutely love both, they make a great sibset in my opinion

I prefer [name_f]Gemma[/name_f].

I don’t much care for [name_u]Skylar[/name_u], especially when it isn’t spelled [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u].

Me personally I’m not a big fan of [name_u]Skylar[/name_u], it feels very 90s early 00’s to me (which coming from an early 00’s baby feels weird saying it feels dated), I wouldn’t describe it as classy or professional, but it’s not trashy either, it honestly in my experience feels like the mean girl name. There’s nothing actually wrong with it but that’s the vibe I get from it, I don’t mind [name_u]Skye[/name_u] though. I do really like [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] though, I think it’s super sweet, [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] definitely has more of a classy vibe to me. They’re not bad as sisters but it’s not my fav sibset

[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is sweet and versatile -it has spark but softness

[name_u]Skylar[/name_u] is sharp and cool though i admit I prefer Sky/Skye by itself

I love them both, especially together. I picture a lovely gemstone sunrise.

I love [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], which sounds smart and fits your description of professional for me. I love [name_f]Gem[/name_f] for a short form as well. I’m afraid for me [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] just isn’t on the same level. I do love [name_u]Skye[/name_u] though on its own, an appealing and evocative name. [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_u]Skye[/name_u] would make a lovely set of sisters.

Skylar - Pretty cute, more of a boy’s name to me personally! Doesn’t sound like it would age well. I can’t imagine a Grandma Skylar.

Gemma - Classic and sweet! Works for all ages. I like this name’s style!

I like them both, individually and together. I do prefer the [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] spelling but I understand people liking [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] better and it is my favourite of the variation-spellings. I find both [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] to be pretty versatile and I think I’ve had both of them on my long list at one time or another.

I find (at least where I live) both names are more popular for kids now than for adults, but I can see both names growing up pretty easily. I like [name_u]Skye[/name_u] and [name_f]Gem[/name_f] as nicknames - they feel related to each other but not too matchy.

I think Gemma is beautiful. It sounds nice and in my opinion it ages extremely well. Plus, I love the nn Gem!

Skylar is still nice but I wouldn’t use it. However, Skylar and Gemma would make great sister names.
