Skywalker?

First of all, I’m a dedicated, proud, lifelong sci-fi/fantasy geek, and a lot of my favorite names are outright references or subtle nods to characters who have inspired me. It’s likely that anyone I married would also be pretty geeky, so I’m hoping these names would pass the significant-other inspection.

I really love [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars, and the saga as a whole, and especially the characters of [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_f]Leia[/name_f] are very powerful and inspirational to me. The surname Skywalker is associated with a lot of my favorite characters, and it also brings up very strong, adventurous, beautiful imagery for me. What do y’all think of it as a middle name? It’s totally not a FN option, but I think it would be very cool as a middle name, probably on a boy.

(On a side note, I know a toddler whose first and middle names are Anakin Skywalker, which seems like a bit much to me, not least because while I love Anakin as a character I wouldn’t name my child directly after him.)

The middle spot is the perfect place for parents to use their guilty pleasure names or to go a little wild. Although Skywalker isn’t my taste, I think it would be fine in the middle since it means so much to you.

I agree with [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]. If it makes you happy, put it in the middle. [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Walker[/name_u] are fine as first names so why not put them together in the middle spot.

I’ll apologize in advance for being a party pooper… I’m always wary of less-than-subtle nods to a parent’s passions. What if your child ends up not liking [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars? Or is embarrassed by the name when he moves beyond the age of 12? Growing up with you, he’ll likely like SW and probably brag about his mn at some point, but it’s YOUR passion, not his. Personally I’d use something more subtle from SW. Something that only a true fan would know and then it would be a neat connection moment for your child. Or something he could ignore if he didn’t like the reference. As parents we have huge control and huge responsibility for naming another human being.

I say go for it. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is a total nerd for star wars and star trek. If our first daughter had been a boy, he would have been [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. I’d our second had been a boy, he would have been Zefram, after a character in star trek. [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me, I get it!

I think Skywalker could totally work for a MN! If you wanted to incorporate it more into the name you could go with [name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_u]Walker[/name_u] first and middle. Or you could always hyphenate it, [name_u]Sky[/name_u]-Wlaker, nn [name_u]Sky[/name_u].
Have fun with this and don’t be afraid to use it! I’ve contemplated MacGyver for a middle name, yeah it’s crazy, but you love what you love right?! (;

Agree with all of this. Also, I read recently that someone had added Skywalker as a middle name via deed-poll and had later been denied a passport because it was a trademarked name. You can read the story here if you like. While that was an issue that was blown out of proportion by the passport office, it could still cause problems in the future. Maybe try something a little more subtle?

I agree with schickler here. While very unusual names are best in the middle spot, I think this one is a bit over the top.

I agree that it’s a little [name_m]OTT[/name_m]. Maybe you could use a star wars related name instead, like [name_m]Luke[/name_m]? Or something along those lines. [name_u]Walker[/name_u] or just [name_u]Sky[/name_u] would be a nice alternative to Skywalker, though. I love [name_u]Walker[/name_u] for a boy.
