Smilla - Can this work?

I love the name Smilla but I am not sure if it can work in English? What are your thoughts? Thanks:)

I don’t think it would work, sorry. It reminds me of “smeller”, like someone who smells.

I just thought of “smile”. I have to reluctantly agree with @ladimon - I can see the appeal, but the similarity to smile, smiler, smell, etc., and more pertinently the unfamiliar Sm- beginning, makes me struggle to see it working.

Having said that, I’m sure you’ll get some people disagreeing with me!

I’m gonna pass on this one in English.

Thanks so much for the feedback:) That was my fear that it would be too close to ‘smelly’. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think just [name_f]Milla[/name_f] could work?

I would have to say no to Smilla but I quite like [name_f]Milla[/name_f]. It reminds me of [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and that has a positive vibe for me.

I think [name_f]Milla[/name_f] works since it’s similar to [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. [name_f]Samira[/name_f] would also work if you like it.

I agree that [name_f]Milla[/name_f] would most certainly work.

Luzmila seems like a nice alternative. I know many pronounce it with the z like a d, but the one I knew in real life pronounced it like [name_f]Luz[/name_f] + [name_f]Milla[/name_f] (meaning Loos-milla).
