That’s so interesting! I know people with many of these last names, too, which is cool! I never realized many of them were [name_m]Smith[/name_m] equivalents in meaning.

Kovalyov isn’t really a [name_m]Smith[/name_m] variation but Kusnetsov is. Kovalyov originated from the word “ковать” / "kovat’ " that means “to forge” while Kuznetsov is an occupational surname from the word “кузнец” (kuznets; blacksmith)
