Im not very sure what you mean, but yes [name_m]Smith[/name_m] is a surname. i know multiple people with this surname.
I dont like it very much as a first name however.

Yes, it is a surname, but I also really like it as a first name.
I do think it’s a surname…because it is a surname. I also however think it would make a nice first name as well 
It’s one of the most popular surnames in the [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking world so while it could work as a first name, I think there might occasionally be some confusion.
