So I’ve always been in love with the name [name_f]Snow[/name_f] for a girl. The only problem now is I was getting excited thinking of middle names and didn’t even think about the fact that daddy’s last name is Whiten. So that’d make her [name_f]Snow[/name_f] Whiten. I actually think it’s kind of cute. And I’m a sucker for cool name combos and names that are different. But I want people’s opinion first. I just love [name_f]Snow[/name_f] a lot and I kind of thought it was cute with the last name Whiten.
I think [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as a first with Whiten as a middle is a bit over the top. It’s one of those names where I’d wonder why the parents used [name_f]Snow[/name_f] when the connection would be obvious and there are so many other names out there. It reminds me of stories of children called [name_m]Ben[/name_m] [name_m]Dover[/name_m] and similar, although it is a nicer example. A name meaning ‘[name_f]Snow[/name_f]’ (like [name_f]Eira[/name_f] or [name_f]Lumi[/name_f]) might be a more subtle way of having the [name_f]Snow[/name_f] White connection. Or using [name_f]Snow[/name_f] in the middle is another idea. The association’s still there, but in the middle it isn’t clear for everyone to see. I do like [name_f]Snow[/name_f], especially as a middle it can add a good deal of whimsy and magic to a combo, unfortunately Whiten might not be the best idea.
I really like the name [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f] [name_m]Hall[/name_m] (Aussie Mummy blogger) has a baby named [name_f]Snow[/name_f] and it suits her so well. But with Whiten as a last name, I’m sorry but I have to say a hard no haha. I grew up with quite a bit of teasing merely for having the first name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m]). I don’t even want to think about [name_f]Snow[/name_f] and Whiten. School is rough, even with a thick skin. You could think about giving her your last name or use both. E.g [name_f]Snow[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]-Whiten. But event then, I’d be cautious. If it’s not too much to ask of the Dad, I’d use your last name so you still get to use [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. Though I know this could be a big ask, my husband would be very insulted if I asked to use my last name instead of his (bit silly how attached we are to traditions isn’t it? haha).
When I saw the title of this post, I immediately thought of [name_f]Snow[/name_f] White…and that was before opening up the full post. I think that [name_f]Snow[/name_f] Whiten is really quite unusable, and will immediately lead to teasing.
I think [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as a middle name is awesome, and as a first name could definitely work in some situations, but not this one. I’d say if you really want to use it, hyphenate your last name and the dad’s last name, or give her just your last name. Naming her [name_f]Snow[/name_f] Whiten would definitely turn some heads and subject her to ridicule.
I love Snow! It’s one of my all time favorite names! It reminds me of snow, of course, and winter one of my favorite seasons (2nd after autumn), so I just love everything about this name. So enchanting.
If the last name situation personally doesn’t bother you then I think you just should go for it. I think it’d be kind of cool, plus she’d rarely go by her first and last name.
[name_f]Snow[/name_f] is such a lovely name, but it wouldn’t work as a good first name with Whiten. However, you could always use it as a middle name. In high school, I had a science teacher named Mr. DeMayo. His middle name was Cinco and I always thought that his parents had a great sense of humor.
