With a real baby on the way now and not just hypothetical ponderings, DH and I are narrowing down our list. Currently, we have either [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (haven’t decided if we will use two middles yet as [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is a bit long) as our top contender for a girl, which we both love and would be perfectly happy with. However, we also really love [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as a middle name. For me, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is safe, traditional, soft, and beautiful. It is one of those names that just screams feminine to me. I picture tiny hands touching velvety soft petals in a sprawling garden. [name_f]Snow[/name_f], on the other hand, is much more modern, but still beautiful. I feel the calm silence of a forest and see the sun glittering off everything after the violence of the first winter storm. Ugh…such lovely names, both of them.
The issue is: I’m having a really hard time with feeling like it’s going to sound weird where we are to use [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as a name. I mean nobody really has weird or non-traditional names in our neck of the woods (that I’m aware of) unless they’re cultural names. So what do you think?
Which would you choose–[name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Snow[/name_f]?
What second middle might you choose with [name_f]Snow[/name_f]? (I feel like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] sounds a bit weird. We’ve considered [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f])
Edit: Last name is Muhn-see if that makes a difference to anyone. haha
I see your dilemma, what a difficult choice! I tend to have conservative taste, so when I read the beginning of your post I thought [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for sure. However, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is such a gorgeous combination!!! Either choice would be beautiful, but I think my vote goes to [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f].
Thanks for the feedback! I tend to have more conservative taste, as well. There are a few places I stray occasionally, but generally not far. Our area where we live is conservative too, so that doesn’t help. I’ve been trying to picture someone saying her name out loud at a baptism or graduation or something and what the reaction (mine and others’) would be. haha
I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely. I like [name_f]Snow[/name_f], but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] compliments [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] so well! Both [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are gorgeous. I would use [name_f]Rose[/name_f], especially if you’re uncertain about [name_f]Snow[/name_f].
I like the sound of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] out loud better than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I do like [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as middle name, don’t get me wrong but sometimes (to me) it just sounds like a last name & [name_u]Arden[/name_u] already sounds a bit surname-y to me. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is beautiful! [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] & [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] are more common while [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is more uncommon & a word.
Overall, I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. It’s a hard choice but I’d pick [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I don’t really think you can go wrong, it’s all about what you like more & feel comfortable with.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is lovely! But I still think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is gorgeous, too. You can’t go wrong either way.
If I had to choose…I think I would lean slightly towards [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] ever so slightly.
My vote goes to [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. It’s so beautiful and perfectly balanced, and I sort of wonder whether you might regret not using [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in the long run, especially if your taste tends to run more in a more conservative direction as a general rule.
I agree that [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] works better than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. Personally I’d prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] / [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f], but you’ve probably considered that already. They’re both lovely names, and maybe you’ll find that one starts to feel more like your daughter than the other.
I trend more conservative in my tastes, and I find [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] to be beautiful. My daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Rose[/name_f], though, so I could be biased The only thing you might want to consider is initials? [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with your last name would spell FARM. Not sure if that’s a big deal to you? The single [name_f]Rose[/name_f] middle name eliminates that issue.
If you decide to go with [name_f]Snow[/name_f] (which is also pretty, but definitely more modern), I agree that [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] flows better than [name_u]Arden[/name_u].
After thinking this over, I vote [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I think it has a beautiful sound, it’s unconventional, and more interesting to me. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] feels feminine and pretty, but also kind of simple and common. (That’s not a value judgment! [name_m]Just[/name_m] my perspective.)
Real snow can be soft and beautiful, but it can also be strong and powerful. [name_f]Snow[/name_f] can fall lightly and silently on a holiday morning, or it can fall in torrents, bending others to its will. It’s one of the strongest forces of nature there is. I think it signals versatility, beauty, and power. [name_f]Snow[/name_f] falls on mountains, snow causes blizzards, it signals change, and it represents cycles. [name_f]Rose[/name_f], by contrast, signals softness and simplicity, but not much else. To me, it really depends on which concept you’re going for. Since you already have the soft, pretty [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], I think [name_f]Snow[/name_f] makes a compelling, bold choice that both contrasts and emphasizes her first name.
I personally would go with [name_f]Snow[/name_f], I love it, but between the two names you picked out, I gotta say, I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. And that’s saying something, because I usually don’t like [name_u]Arden[/name_u] for girls. I also think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] works well. I think [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] felt weird because of the N’s being so close, but the extra syllable in [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] almost cancels that out, I think. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought.
@-eagleeyes-: Thanks for the feedback! I am uncertain of [name_f]Snow[/name_f], but it is growing on me. I may let DH be the ultimate decision maker as I think both [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Snow[/name_f] could be beautiful.
@gildedfairyx: I agree that [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] does sound better than [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. Definitely think [name_u]Arden[/name_u] needs to stay with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I hadn’t thought about [name_f]Snow[/name_f] potentially sounding like a surname. I can see that and it’s something to think about. Thanks!
@emmamay: Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. =]
@morning_glory: Thanks for the response. =] I’m not sure if I’d end up regretting not using [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. It’s something I’ll have to think about. Thankfully, we have some time. And we may not even need to worry about it just yet with this baby. haha I have considered [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f], but I am not as much a fan of that spelling.
@ehfrank: lol I had thought about the initials being FARM. It doesn’t bother DH or I. When I was young, we all used to compare initials to see whose made words and it was always really cool if yours did, so I really don’t think a child would have a problem with initials that spell a word. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
@silversky109: I really appreciate the analysis of the two names. Though I realize snow can be powerful and dangerous, I had been thinking for along the soft, gentle, peaceful line. You’re quite right in saying that [name_f]Snow[/name_f] conveys both softness and strength, beauty and power, though, whereas [name_f]Rose[/name_f] embodies beauty, delicacy, tenderness, etc. Unless you think of a knock out rose, which is quite hardy. haha I do like the contrast you mention seeing between [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I had never considered [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] as soft, exactly, so that’s a new line of thought for me. Thank you so much for the in-depth response. Definitely gave me something to think about!
Thank you all again for you responses! I really love hearing what others think.
@Kate4hisglory: I didn’t see your response when I typed mine, sorry! I think you’re correct–the back to back Ns in [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] run together a bit and mess with the flow. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] doesn’t do that as much, though. I will have to think about that. I like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and currently have it in another combo, but I’ve been reconsidering it lately as it is quite close to [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] and I don’t want to part with that name in my [name_f]Margot[/name_f] combo. haha We’ll see I guess. Thank you for the feedback!
@jenevievem: I can see how [name_f]Snow[/name_f] could be seen as trendy. Nature names in general are quite trendy right now. I’m one that isn’t terribly bothered by “trendy,” though, particularly in a middle name. If I was thinking about [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as a first name, the trendy nature of it might bother me just a bit more. Still, certainly something to consider. Thanks for the response. =]
I adore [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]! I also quite like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
I much prefer [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is so pretty. I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] as well. You have good taste!
I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. So beautiful! [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is pretty too.
I immediately thought [name_f]Snow[/name_f], for a few reasons. I agree [name_f]Snow[/name_f] has some gorgeous imagery, and I love that it adds a more unusual flare to any combo. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely, and complements so many names incredibly well, but I think [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is just as beautiful and feminine whilst also being different. I was obsessed with [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as middle (even through the Hunger Games connection), so I still love it. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] sounds amazing! Something I did notice with [name_u]Arden[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], is that it reminds me of ‘garden rose’, but that’s probably more of a plus.
