Dh and I are really liking Elowyn P—ll (last name) for a baby girl (so excited, as it has been a struggle to find something we both like). I know many will make a LOTR connection, but it doesn’t bother me if ppl think of that (the name isn’t actually in the movies-just a similar sound).
1st question: general thoughts on elowyn? any potential problems with the name that we haven’t thought of?
2nd question: any nn thoughts/suggestions?
3rd question: middle name suggestions? Please, none of the regular ‘filler’ names. (We’re starting at scratch for a mn as we do not want to use family names).
[name]Feel[/name] free to answer any or all of the questions, but I’m especially interested in middle name suggestions:)
Forgot to note that baby girl’s brother’s name will be either [name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]Roman[/name] or [name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]Brandon[/name] ([name]Brandon[/name] is after my husband).
I would strongly recommend the Elowen spelling. The -wyn ending is almost exclusively masculine in Welsh. You might as well be naming your son [name]Josephine[/name]. Other than that, Elowen is a beautiful name.
1st question: general thoughts on elowyn? any potential problems with the name that we haven’t thought of? Yeah, some people might think its cheesy/LOTR-ish. But it is a beautiful name. If you do find that you’re bothered by the LOTR thing, [name]Eloise[/name] has a similar feel!
2nd question: any nn thoughts/suggestions? When I was considering Elowyn, I thought [name]Winnie[/name] would be such a cute nn!!! Otherwise, the standard [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name], or [name]Lolo[/name].
3rd question: middle name suggestions? Please, none of the regular ‘filler’ names. (We’re starting at scratch for a mn as we do not want to use family names).
I agree with southern.maple about the -wyn ending, I think it’s more feminine Elowen, but it’s entirely up to you! Some possible nn for you could be, [name]Ella[/name]/[name]Elle[/name], Lowy, Wen/[name]Wyn[/name], or [name]Wynnie[/name].
I think it’s a very Welsh sounding name, and I could recommend a few pretty Welsh middle names for you being from [name]Wales[/name]

I’m in the “-wyn is masculine” camp, but I [name]ADORE[/name] Elowen. I think it’s beautiful and uncommon. I think the nickname [name]Lolo[/name] would be really cute.
I think Elowen is soo pretty! Like PP, I prefer this spelling though. Elowen [name]Magnolia[/name], Elowen [name]Annabel[/name], or Elowen [name]Rosalie[/name], perhaps?
