I have had loads of great suggestions from everyone here already and I’ve been back over all my previous posts a heap of times, but nothing feels right, so I’m making one last post to try and find a name for [name]Imogen[/name]'s baby brother. We have [name]Theodore[/name] down as the middle name - that has at least stayed solid, but our 2 first name options we had narrowed it down to just aren’t working for me anymore.
[name]Finlay[/name] - because he would inevitably end up being called [name]Finn[/name] and I don’t like the end rhyming sound of [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] together.
[name]Asher[/name] - I lost the love for this a while ago, but tried to get it back because DH really likes it, but here in [name]New[/name] Zealand with our “lazy” accent it’s going to be pronounced [name]Ash[/name]-[name]Ah[/name] and I can’t change that. I also feel like it sounds more trendy than traditional and even though it’s way down the popularity list here compared to say [name]Henry[/name] (which I like, but DH doesn’t), [name]Henry[/name] has a much more traditional vibe and similar style to [name]Imogen[/name], which is what I’m looking for.
So I’m back for one last go at gathering suggestions. I’m hoping that something will stand out or maybe I’ll see a name I’ve already passed on, in a new light. As much as I’d like to put the whole thing aside and just wait to meet him, I don’t even have a short list to work from anymore and he’d likely end up with my daughter’s latest suggestion of Pirate Goldfish!!
So, what would you name [name]Imogen[/name]'s baby brother?
“_________” [name]Theodore[/name] (last name starting with G)
I’m not really sure of your style or what all you’ve seen so far, so I’m just gonna throw out some I personally like with [name]Imogen[/name] and see what sticks.
[name]Augustus[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G. ([name]Gus[/name]?)
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Isaac[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Sidney[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G. ([name]Sid[/name])
[name]Roan[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]William[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Philip[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Eben[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Faber[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Seamus[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Matthias[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Josiah[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] G.
Is there any reason you can’t use [name]Theodore[/name] as a fn? I think [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] (or [name]Theo[/name] or [name]Ted[/name]) works really well together. Then you could use [name]Finlay[/name], [name]Asher[/name], or [name]Henry[/name] for a mn and some of the problems you noted with them wouldn’t seem to matter too much.
Here are some other suggestions that work well with [name]Imogen[/name] and are similar to:
[name]Ramsay[/name]! I love [name]Imogen[/name] & [name]Ramsay[/name]. It’s hard to abbreviate, has the same Celtic feel as [name]Finlay[/name] & [name]Imogen[/name], and sounds great with [name]Theodore[/name].
Thanks everyone!!! I really appreciate all the replies, please keep them coming.
While Pirate Goldfish has a certain ‘special quality’ I’ll think we’ll save it for an actual goldfish
davisellu - I would [name]LOVE[/name] to use [name]Theodore[/name] as a fn, but DH really, really doesn’t like it, due to some association with someone he used to know, so he has compromised big time to let it go in the middle and I don’t want to push my luck and lose it completely, I’d rather have it in the middle than nowhere.
missusaytch - I guess I’d say my style is vintage/traditional, not too popular, but still recognisable by most people.
Of everything that has been suggested so far there are many we have considered, but also lots that I hadn’t thought of, so I’ll have to go through them all really carefully for a proper look. I didn’t want to make my post even longer by listing what we have discounted because it’s a pretty long list and I wonder if there is something I’ve passed on that might actually be a good choice, but it includes [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Angus[/name], [name]Rafferty[/name], [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Alistair[/name], [name]August[/name] - to give you some idea of the sorts of names that I prefer.
Thanks again everyone
[name]Imogen[/name] was the name we had picked out for our last bub (ended up with a boy). I’m also in NZ so some of our other favs might be your taste:
[name]Don[/name]'t cry!! We’ll see if we can’t drum up some new loves for you (or revive some old ones!)
Some traditional, vintage choices that pair well with sister [name]Imogen[/name]:
[name]Asa[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] - instead of your husband’s [name]Asher[/name]. Less traditional alternatives would be [name]Ashby[/name] or [name]Ashton[/name] or [name]Ashley[/name] (if you’re feeling bold!)
[name]Duncan[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Edwin[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Edward[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Levi[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Merritt[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (a little long, but quite dashing)
[name]Magnus[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (instead of [name]Angus[/name]?)
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Silas[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Quincy[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Declan[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Roland[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Harvey[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (love [name]Harvey[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name], and it’s a good replacement for [name]Henry[/name])
[name]Simon[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Wesley[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Nigel[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Alfred[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (because you like [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Everett[/name])
[name]Beckett[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Richard[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Sterling[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Byron[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Orson[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Linus[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Carlisle[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Carlisle[/name] would be adorable)
[name]Amos[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Harold[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Howard[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Cedric[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Francis[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Franklin[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Ralph[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (because you like [name]Rafferty[/name]. [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Ralph[/name] is adorable!)
[name]Shiloh[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Ah[/name] I just did a whole list and lost it!
Sorry if there’s any repeats
[name]Imogen[/name] and:
[name]Hunter[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Hamish[/name]
[name]Harvey[/name]
[name]Austin[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Angus[/name]
[name]Evan[/name]
[name]Tate[/name]/ tait
Also agree that [name]Theodore[/name] makes a great first name.
Good luck
I’d like to help, but there are so many amazing suggestions here ([name]Ramsay[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], [name]Wesley[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] to name a few)! I can’t wait to see what you like. Anyway, just wanted to say, your daughter sounds amazing! Pirate Goldfish would make an excellent name (for a pet). Might steal it for my next cat.
Thanks everyone, there are some really great suggestions and I appreciate your help so much. There are a few names suggested that are already in use by family/friends, so they aren’t an option, but I am looking more closely at [name]Soren[/name] and [name]Bennett[/name] (names we had considered before but crossed of the list), as well as [name]Elias[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Vincent[/name]. [name]Jasper[/name] has really grown on me and I don’t normally like J names, but our puppy is [name]Caspar[/name], so I think that’s probably out. [name]Milo[/name] I also love, but here in NZ it’s the name of a very popular chocolate drink and I don’t think people would ever get past that association, which is a shame. I’m also going to put [name]Angus[/name] back on the list and keep working on the possibility of [name]Henry[/name].
With [name]Arlo[/name]…this one has been on my radar for a little while and I’ve gone back and forward about it because we certainly can’t claim any type of Spanish association in our family, but I’ve since seen multiple definitions for it on various sites. What is the general consensus about it’s origin and meaning?
Thanks again everyone! It’s great to have a place to come and get such helpful advice. If I asked friends and family I’d just get a list of the top 10 most popular names and that would be as original as it would get.
