So... I did a little experiment

Hello, so I did a little experiment a while back, on a different naming website; Mumsnet.com(and yes, I did lie that I was expecting, telling them it was twins, bc no one else would answer that thread if I had ask for their opinions and the fact that I wasn’t expecting), to see if people on that website has similar opinions to NBs, and it was different (and the fact that no one knew what team green meant) with these falling names:
Gabrielle
Odette
Juliana
Rosemary
Briar-Rose
Camille
Archibald
Sebastian
Jackson
Camille
Julien
Felix
Gabriel
Joseph

Here are the general views on each names:
Gabrielle: too outdated, and most of them preferred Gabriella. (On my post here, most people preferred Gabrielle over Gabriella)
Odette: no one seemed to care for it, or just disliked it
Juliana: some people preferred Julia
Briar-Rose: no one liked; it was either bc of it was tongue tied, too tied to the fairy tale, or liked one over the other as a standalone(one even called it tacky)
Camille: people liked, but were confused on the pronunciation
Genevieve: people were quite unsure, or liked it.

Archibald: people seemed to like it.
Gabriel: again, people seemed to like.
Jackson: no one liked; they prefer Jack or it was too surname-y
Joseph: no one seemed to care.
Sebastian: people liked
Felix: people were loving Felix.
Camille: either they ignored it, or were saying it’s a girl name. (One user even suggested Camille for both twins, idk if I should be hurt or think it was funny, the same for Gabrielle and Gabriel).

Popular combinations:
Gabrielle + Camille
Sebastian + Gabriel and it was tied with Felix for substitute for either names
Felix + Camille / Rosemary or Gabriel + Camille

What are your thoughts on these results? Would NB say the same thing if I was actually pregnant with twins, or a child in general? To me, I think you ladies, guys and nonbinary pals would be a bit nicer about it, giving me suggestions that were similar to these style (and one user did over at mumset, but they didn’t have a similar vibes to these names).

Well, if it was on NB, [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] + [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] would win by far :joy:

Really interesting! But I’m not surprised considering that forum is created for expecting parents not name enthusiasts.

I’m surprised that no one likes [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]. I know an elementary kid with this name and I thought it was decently trendy. Also wouldn’t have thought [name_m]Felix[/name_m] would be quite so popular.
I dont know the climate at Mumsnet;in fact I am barely familiar with posting on this website. What is team green?

Team green = not learning the baby’s sex before birth

It’s also referred to as team yellow, which I find a bit odd.

Thank you!

I’d have thought it would be yellow. Isn’t yellow the pink/blue gender neutral color still? Maybe that’s outdated or perhaps yellow is being used for yet another term I’m unfamiliar with lol.

How popular is it to be team green? I know of exactly one family that does it that way in each generation. I didnt think it was really something people did (except super rare outliers like that one family).

Thanks. Yellow makes more sense to me actually. I think I’ll go ahead with that term if I ever have the occasion to use it.

I feel like I see it on the forums quite often!

That’s so hard to believe. I wonder how many of them are just faking it so people will respond… but then again people who are obsessed with names like Berries might just have different proclivities from the rest of the population.
Then again maybe I’m hanging out with backwards weirdos and this is what the cool kids are up to these days.

That’s true. There might be a lot of people faking, bc I know some teen berries did before coming here. And I think it’s bc barely any of their peers liked names as much as they did, and they want to express their fondness of names, and if teens just said “I’m a teen, and can you judge…”, Members of other naming sites wouldn’t bother bc they’re not expecting. And I’m not excusing it, but that’s one of the reasons why teens do.

That makes sense. I remember being the only one i knew who was interested in names. Its great to have the internet. I feel like very few of my hobbies have an irl outlet. You need places like this where people get that part of you.

Wow that’s surprising about [name_m]Felix[/name_m], you would think based on the feedback on the rest of the names they would’ve said it was too much for a cat or something. Also Briar-Rose being tacky :sob: I love Briar-Rose :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: For the combinations my favorites would be Sebastian+Felix, Felix+Camille and Rosemary+Camille. Here’s some suggestions if you want :black_heart:

It should be team purple!

You’re right in the literal blue/pink sense, but realistically purple is too closely associated with the LGBTQ community. That would cause confusion I think.

How is purple too associated with the lgbtq+ community?

Theyve got rainbows they cant have purple too! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If a couple were to say they were team purple, I’d think they were talking about the couple’s orientation and not about whether they are revealing the gender of the baby.

Although since you bring it up I guess both views concern gender so maybe it might make sense.

what does purple have to do with orientation of the couple? that’s what I’m confused about, sorry! what does team purple (or just purple) mean in reference to orientation??

You know maybe my reference isn’t as widely known as I thought. Purple is sometimes used to refer to homosexuality just like rainbow flags, for example.

oh, how interesting! I have heard of lavender being associated with lesbians, but it doesnt seem to be a widely known thing, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard of purple being associated with the community! I don’t often find things related to the community that I don’t already know, so I am very interested now! I will have to look more into it, thank you! :slightly_smiling_face:
