So Jealous!

I’m so jealous of all you ladies with these long lists of names you [name]LOVE[/name]. I can find plenty of names that I like, or names that I can appreciate the beauty of, but no names that I really [name]LOVE[/name]. I really want a name i’m in love with for my daughter. I never thought I’d have a girl and I really want to find that one perfect name, but i’m beginning to think it’s not out there! I just got done taking a one week break from even thinking about names. I was hoping that a week away would make them sound better when I got back, but it didn’t. What’s a girl to do?

Think of a meaning that you want. I always think this is important because every time I call my daughter’s name, I want it to be a blessing to her.

For example, say the quality you want your daughter to have is courage… then you can pick a name like [name]Bernadette[/name], which means Brave like a bear. Each time you call her, that is what you bless her with. You know the meaning… and even in times when you might have a conflict with your toddler/tween/teen/young adult… you will remember as you call her, that blessing first. For me, this was/is a saving grace, because as a parent, there are so many times I am frustrated or cornered unintentionally by the children/husband (haha). And sometimes, what you want is to bite back! But when I call them/address them before that bite, I remember… what I meant for them/their lives, packaged in a name…

You will be surprised at the paradigm shift that occurs. [name]Hope[/name] this helps. This is how I found each of my babies’ names.

I’m going to jot down my list of favorite name combos and hopefully some name in there will grab your eye or inspire you to a different name. I don’t know your style, but here’s hoping!:

[name]Mila[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Marcelle[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Elyse[/name]
[name]Keira[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Celia[/name] [name]Dove[/name]
[name]Andrea[/name] Swan
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Bella[/name] [name]Rene[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Fleur[/name] [name]Soleil[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name] (a lady from another community I frequent is using this for her daughter)
[name]Roma[/name] Aubrielle
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Adora[/name]
[name]Dulcea[/name] [name]Laramie[/name] ([name]Doll[/name]-chay-uh instead of [name]Doll[/name]-see-uh) and I love that [name]Laramie[/name] means “tears of love”
[name]Imogen[/name] Fawkes (somebody posted this as the name of a tv reporter, and I love it!)
[name]Hattie[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (I love this name [name]Tori[/name] Spelling used on her daughter!)

For me personally I have two girls: [name]Ava[/name] [name]Dulcea[/name] ([name]Doll[/name]-see-uh), and [name]Mia[/name] [name]Isobel[/name]. If I have a third she’s [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Fleur[/name].

I hope this helped! Good luck finding a name! I’ll look for your posts to see how you’re coming along!

Aww. Sometimes all of us go through spells of not loving any names. I know it’s happened to me dozens of times in the past several years! [name]How[/name] far along are you? [name]Do[/name] you have a while to go still, or will she be coming soon? I’ve always found that just keeping my eyes and ears open for names works really well. Sometimes I’ll hear a name I like on a TV show that strikes me, or a name someone else posts on here, and I’m always listening for people’s names at work–I work in retail right now, so it’s fairly easy to come across a lot of names. It might not be quite so easy for you, but just soak up names. Hopefully something will hit you, or you’ll get inspiration somewhere, or at least a sense of where you want to go with your daughter’s name. [name]Do[/name] you have an idea of what you’re looking for? I’ve come to the conclusion that I want something girly, with a fuller name with a cute nn, and something with personal significance has even more of a bonus. I want something sweet, not exotic, with tons of history, but nothing too out-there, because frankly, something that’s too striking wouldn’t fit me at all, and I can’t really imagine it suiting my children, either. I’m all for uncommon, but too striking or too out-there is just not for me. All my combos have family significance somewhere. Usually my pattern is FN that I just like, first MN that honors some value I would like to pass onto my children (my faith; hope in the future; respect to all people; etc. A historical namesake like [name]Lincoln[/name] or [name]Boone[/name] or something is also an option, although I tend to prefer names like [name]Lincoln[/name], [name]Boone[/name], [name]Booker[/name] ([name]Booker[/name] T. [name]Washington[/name]), and [name]Atticus[/name] up front)–or just another name I like–and the second MN usually honors family for me. You definitely don’t have to follow that–I just thought it might help to understand my process.

I think @gigigibbons has a great idea, though–seeing other people’s combos usually spurs my own inspiration on my list! So I’ll share my favorites, as well. Hopefully it’ll get you started.

[name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name] “[name]Bella[/name]/[name]Belle[/name]” ([name]Ella[/name] and [name]Izzy[/name] are also nn options)
[name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] “[name]Ari[/name]”
[name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] [name]Camille[/name] “[name]Liv[/name]/[name]Olive[/name]/[name]Livy[/name]”
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Eden[/name] _____ “[name]Lola[/name]/[name]Lottie[/name]” (torn between which family name to use–[name]Pearl[/name], [name]Rue[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Rebecca[/name], and [name]Noelle[/name] are options so far)
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Rachel[/name] [name]Clara[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Magda[/name] ____ _____ (maybe nn [name]Maggie[/name]… fairly new addition to my list, so I haven’t even considered combos yet! Not seriously, anyway. I’ve toyed with [name]Magda[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Magda[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], and [name]Magda[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name]…)
[name]Josephine[/name] _____ _____ “[name]Posey[/name]” (thinking about maybe [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Esme[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], or [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]. [name]Esme[/name] honors family)
[name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Liliana[/name] _____ _____ “[name]Lily[/name]/[name]Lila[/name]”

That’s my official list, but other loves that just barely got axed were [name]Lydia[/name] (nn [name]Lydie[/name]), [name]Genevieve[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name]/[name]Ginny[/name]; or maybe just [name]Eve[/name]), [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Helena[/name]/[name]Eleni[/name]/[name]Madeleine[/name] (nn [name]Leni[/name]), [name]Eliska[/name] (nn [name]Ella[/name])… I think that’s about it for me right now.

Good luck!

When I’m picking possible names for my future child(ren), I try to imagine them as if they were a real person. I imagine them with bits of me (looks, personality), but also being their own person. So I picture one being musically gifted, another being big into sports, or being a dancer, etc. Does that make sense or does it just make me sound totally crazy?
Assuming that I’m not crazy, you could do something like that. Picture the daughter you’ve always dreamed of, and try to imagine what she’s like, and then see if any names jump out at you.
