So many pretty names.. How to choose just one?

My husband and I are expecting our first in early [name_f]May[/name_f] and are not planning to find out the sex. We are planning to take a list of 3(-ish) names to the hospital with us and decide when we meet the baby (unless THE name becomes really clear before then). Our boys names are [name_m]Grant[/name_m] (front runner this week), [name_m]Ford[/name_m], and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] and I don’t see that list changing much, if at all. Middle name will likely be [name_m]Michael[/name_m] for his dad.

For girls I’m stumped. I like so many names and constantly change what’s on the list. I think I’d like something sweet but not too frilly. My husbands one suggestions has been [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] (preferably with the middle name [name_m]Manning[/name_m]…) While there is nothing wrong with [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], it’s just really not my style.

The first name just needs to be a name we like. I’m [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] and was always the only [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] in my class. My husband is [name_m]Austin[/name_m] which was not common in the late 70’s. So we would like a name that isn’t super popular but not unheard of. Below is our current girls list. What jumps out at you?

[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] (maybe too sweet)
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] ([name_f]Gwen[/name_f])
[name_f]Neve[/name_f]
[name_f]Marla[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] ([name_f]Vivi[/name_f])
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] (overused but still very pretty)
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]

We want a middle name that either means something lovely, means something to us personally, or is a family name:
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u] (personal meaning)
[name_u]Whitney[/name_u] (a character in a novel)
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f] (actual meaning)
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] (my dad is [name_m]Phillip[/name_m])
[name_u]Lane[/name_u] (grandma’s maiden name)

We are willing to take suggestions on names with lovely meanings

Last name is like Cunnings but with m’s instead of n’s

My favorites definitely have to be [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], and [name_f]Celia[/name_f].
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] would be a beautiful combination, as well as [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f].
You have a great taste!

I like [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] from your boys list. I dislike [name_m]Ford[/name_m] (it’s a car company). I like the following names from your girls list:

[name_f]Celia[/name_f] - [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] has some wonderful names in his plays and this is a fave of mine.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] the literary connection.
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] - I like this name as a first name.
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - one of my favourite vintage names. [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] would be “too sweet”.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - elegant and majestic
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] - frilly and feminine
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] - vintage chic
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] - a Scandinavian gem
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - I love this name in the first spot.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - Spunky with a mythological pedigree

Top Three

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] ([name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f])
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] ([name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f])
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] ([name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f])

These names don’t excite me…

[name_f]Zara[/name_f] - ok but it’s not the best “Z” name
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u] - rhymes with moan, groan, crone etc…Unattractive
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] - trendy name that is best left to the opera world
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] ([name_f]Gwen[/name_f]) - Strongly tied to Ms. Paltrow who irritates me to no end
[name_f]Neve[/name_f] - I don’t like this spelling. I’m Irish so it’s [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] or nothing for me.
[name_f]Marla[/name_f] - Mr [name_m]Donald[/name_m] Trump’s mistress and ex-wife [name_f]Marla[/name_f] Maples comes to mind
[name_u]Adair[/name_u] - a dare? Sounds like a challenge for any male who likes your daughter.
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] ([name_f]Vivi[/name_f]) - I prefer just [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] or [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u].

[name_f]Mae[/name_f] is great especially if she’s a [name_f]May[/name_f] baby. What about the spelling [name_f]May[/name_f]?

[name_f]Neve[/name_f]'s nice to but I have bad associations with it

These sound lovely to me:
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (mae seems to soften the bold z sound and it is adorable but practical)

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]-classic and pretty and avoids trends, and happens to be one of my current faves along with [name_f]Zara[/name_f]. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] sounds better to me than [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], or if you dislike those combos what about:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Viera[/name_f] or Vierra is an option, Vierra [name_u]Lane[/name_u], Vierra [name_f]Mae[/name_f], Vierra [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], or…

[name_f]Reverie[/name_f] for a first name would be an adorable and refreshing unisex choice, pairs: [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].

I like the name [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], but not with the nn gwen, I prefer [name_u]Gwyn/name_u. [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], or [name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f] (not a typo)…

I also love [name_f]Neve[/name_f] pronounce nhev short e sound as apposed to kneev)

I like [name_f]Vivianne[/name_f], not [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]-[name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is adorable as a nn either way.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Neve[/name_f] could work. Finding a middle option for [name_f]Neve[/name_f] seems difficult, I’ll go with:

[name_f]Neve[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f] Glorian or [name_f]Neve[/name_f] Gloriana, [name_f]Neve[/name_f] [name_f]Marielle[/name_f]

Other first ideas: [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (hel-[name_m]LAYN[/name_m]-nah) or [name_u]Simone[/name_u]

[name_f]Celia[/name_f] is very cute. That’s my favorite.
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], and like [name_f]Liv[/name_f].

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Neve[/name_f] in the middle spot ( I know not an option.)

[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u]

Vivienne Audrey
Vivienne Adair

My favorites are [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Marla[/name_f], and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I particularly like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] or [name_f]Marla[/name_f] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u].

I think it would help to both on your own and with your husband talk about what you are looking for in a girl’s name. I think your name is unisex and not frilly and Peyton is also unisex. I can understand wanting to go in very feminine direction if you wished for a non-unisex name growing up. (Note: Most of the Jordans I know are boys; maybe it was more feminine in your area.
I like most of your names except Sloane. I also love Gwyneth, but not with the nickname Gwen.
My favorites from your list would be ones that seem feminine, but not overly frilly.
Zara
Mae
Willa
Neve
Vivienne nn Vivi
Adair
Liv
Daphne
Marla

I love that you love Whitney, because of a book. I wish more people picked names from books they loved versus picking a name from a book just because it exists.
Both Peyton and Sloane would make good middle names. I am reading a book where the heroine’s name is Clare and her middle name is Peyton. I also like Primrose from your signature.

I love the name [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]! [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would make a cute nickname. I think this one is a good pick especially because it works with all of your middle options, each giving the name a different flair: [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] is adorable. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] sounds literary. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] is edgy. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] is graceful. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] is British and classy.

Thanks so much everyone!

I like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f].

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_u]Adair[/name_u]

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Neve[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] would be lovely!!
