So rarely ask but... what do you think? (A few combos)

Hello! For the first few years on Nameberry I would ask a lot for general combo feedback. More recently I’ve felt so secure in my style and attached to my favourite names that I don’t generally think to ask broad opinions. But I was wondering a bit how they’re ‘read’, what’s the general reaction to them upon seeing them individually or together. Maybe what people might think meeting a kid/person with these names?

Initial and uncensored thoughts / opinions - I can take it!

Embla [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] - nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u]

[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]

[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]

[name_f]Fenella[/name_f] Ishild (ees-ild) - nn Fen/[name_f]Nell[/name_f]

[name_f]Eira[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f] (eye-ra)

[name_f]Iseabail[/name_f]/[name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f] (first is the original spelling. Currently unsure which we’d use)

Also bonus question: what stands out about them most as a group? In other words how do you ‘read’ my style? [name_m]Ty[/name_m]!!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts:

Embla [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]-I appreciate that this is different & has cool roots. It just doesn’t have that pretty of a sound to my ears. And ‘em’ names are so popular, that this could get lost with the rest of them. I love love the [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] part!

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] - nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u]-I really want to like this, but have a hard time getting past the [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]'s [name_u]Baby[/name_u] thing. I don’t think that that’s a super common association though. It’s a fun classic name, that’s simple yet not too out there. [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is a clever nn too, although I prefer [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] seems a little short as a mn, but it’s kind of neat too.

[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]-I don’t super love [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f], but it’s interesting & perfectly nice. The double ‘s’ is not my style, but it’s not bad.

[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]-Kind of neat & pretty. Would probably get mistaken for [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] a lot. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is fun.

[name_f]Fenella[/name_f] Ishild (ees-ild) - nn Fen/[name_f]Nell[/name_f]-I love Finuala, but kind of like this too. I’ve tried to make myself like it, because it’s Gaelic (I married into an Irish ln & a bunch of Gaelic named little nephews) & I’m in love w/[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Like most of your names, this is strong, feminine & different w/out being too weird or complicated. Ishild is really cool. Maybe too difficult for a fn, but this combo is lovely. I also like [name_f]Fenella[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f].

[name_f]Eira[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f] (eye-ra)-I don’t know about this one. I like the look of it, but I guess all in all it’s just said like the boy name [name_u]Ira[/name_u]. And I like [name_u]Ira[/name_u] a lot for a boy.

[name_f]Iseabail[/name_f]/[name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f] (first is the original spelling. Currently unsure which we’d use)-The name is super unique anyway, you may as well go w/the original spelling. I don’t personally love it, but I like how it’s old fashioned & original. It’s kind of close to the super popular [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. I don’t care for [name_f]Constance[/name_f]. It sounds harsh to me.

I feel like your style is really unique w/out seeming like you’re trying too hard. They’re all strong yet feminine. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I may seem like I don’t personally like most of them, I still really appreciate your style!

First off, I love your combos! I’d describe yiur style as international with a vintage and mythical element peppered in. Your names are distinctive but each combo has a grounding sense of familiarity

Embla [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - One of my favourites -strong yet soft, familiar yet unique

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] - I like the unexpectedness of this name. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] feels old fashioned but [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u] give it spark.

[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] -i cant quite decide if i like the alliteration. There’s something quite nice about the sing song feel while both names also feel sophisticated. [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] would be nice too, but there’s also a bit of me that finds it a bit too sing songy?? [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] Apollina? [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]?
[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] -love the soft but spiked feel of this. It’s all gentle, all sharp and cool

[name_f]Fenella[/name_f] Ishild - this doesn’t quite have that familiar-yet-distinct feel of your other names but [name_f]Fenella[/name_f] is easy to say and [name_f]Nell[/name_f] grounds it. I like Fenlla a lot and as a combo, this sounds mystical and intriguing

[name_f]Eira[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f] -i love how this is is clunky and streamline all at once, how concise yet bold it feels. I enjoy the sharp endings and bright sounds

[name_f]Iseabail[/name_f]/[name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f]- i slightly prefer [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] but I’m not used to [name_f]Iseabail[/name_f] yet. I really enjoy the sounds and flow of this!!

Embla Beatrix – this is just fantastic. It seems to have both a soft and gentle vibe, as well as an energetic and spunky one, which is rare in a combo. I can see it working for either a reserved or rebellious little soul.
Rosemary Ebba – just lovely. Beautifully unexpected, sophisticated with a nice punch of zest.
Sibyl Sunniva – I don’t mind this one, though it does feel a bit off to me, though I’m not entirely sure just why. I enjoy alliteration, so that’s not it. I (obviously) love Sunniva, and like Sibyl, I just don’t think they fit together so well. I do prefer Sibylla myself, and actually think it would fit better with the other names on your list overall, if that might be something you’d consider? Sibyl Sunniva does kind of grow on me the more I say it - it sounds better than it looks written, if that makes sense?
Amabel Briar – I really like this, so spunky and strong. I do think it feels a little different to the remainder of the combos on your list, though this is not really a bad thing, just something I noticed.
Fenella Ishild – brilliant. Again, unexpected, and has a great ‘old-world romantic’ feel to it.
Eira Thomasin – very nice. The flow of the combo is brilliant, and the two names work perfectly together
Iseabail/Ishbel Constance – I definitely think that Ishbel would be your better bet, as I’m afraid that Iseabail would constantly be mispronounced and mispelled (and perhaps unfortunately judged in negative light as an ‘Isabelle misspelling’ by those unfamiliar with this form)’. Ishbel is far more straightforward, though I do imagine it could often be mistaken for Isabel (eg. my autocorrect ‘corrects’ Ishbel every time, to Isabel…so that’s something to consider). I don’t feel that Constance is a great middle for Ishbel, honestly, though I think it’s more the repeated double syllables that throws out the flow, than Constance itself (ISH-uh-bel Constance sounds great, but ISH-bel Constance just sound a little abrupt to me)

I’d describe your style as ‘strong, quirky and classy Celtic/Anglo/Nordic’ so I think your signature says it relatively well, honestly.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] (this spelling of [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]!)

Also big fan of Embla [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and I like [name_f]Eira[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f] and [name_f]Iseabail[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f].

I think your style is kind of classically Scottish with Nordic Heritage

Embla [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]- I don’t like Embla, I much prefer the classic [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or the cool [name_f]Ebba[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is nice, a bit more funky than [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] - nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u]- I love [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], it’s on my list! I really like this combo. It’s unique and not overly girly, but still very sweet.

[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]- I’m not a fan of using the same first and middle initials. [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] would be better [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]- [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] is so underrated!!!

[name_f]Fenella[/name_f] Ishild (ees-ild) - nn Fen/[name_f]Nell[/name_f]- Sounds like Vanilla, [name_m]Just[/name_m] Fenn or [name_f]Nell[/name_f] would make a cute fn tho

[name_f]Eira[/name_f] [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f] (eye-ra)- [name_f]Eira[/name_f] is stunning but I’m not sold on [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f]

[name_f]Iseabail[/name_f]/[name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f]) I’m not sure how to pronounce the first name, I think I prefer the second spelling, it’s very intriguing and I think a shorter mn would work really well.
